Understanding The Feast Days--Appointed Days of God

We are walking in today:  Understanding The Feast Days--Appointed Days of God

Understanding the Feasts (Appointed Times) of God
In Lev 23:2 God spoke to Moses saying, “Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the
feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations*, even these are my feasts**.
Let us look at the definition of the word translated as “Feast” in the Original Hebrew Manuscripts. Strong’s Hebrew Concordance – H4150 – מועד – mô‛êd – mo-ade’ – appointment
**A better word for “Feast” would be “Appointment” as per the original meaning.
God proclaimed that these are
“Holy assemblies*” & “His Appointments**“, in Lev 23:2
***The “Feasts” or “Appointments” of God are mentioned 1st, not in Leviticus, but in Genesis.
Gen 1:14  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:
The word
“Seasons” in Gen 1:14 and “Feasts” in Lev 23:2 is the same word in the Original Hebrew Manuscripts, “H4150 – Moed – Appointment”.
When Gen 1:14 talks about seasons, we would automatically think of “Spring, Summer, Autumn & Winter”. But God is actually talking about His Appointments.
It would be vastly different if we read this verse as:
Gen 1:14  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for “appointments“, and for days, and years.

Col 3:4 When Christ, who is our life, appears, you too
will appear to be glorified in fellowship with Him.
There is a pattern of life that God desires for each of us.
It is one full of joy and rest, one that is uninterrupted
communion with God, and in perfect harmony with His will.
It is a life that does not thirst and hunger after the world, that walks
outside of sins, and that transcends all things. Indeed, it is a holy,
powerful and victorious life, and one that knows Gods will and
experiences the enabling grace to walk it out, step by step.
It is the life of the Son. The life which God has ordained
is a life that is hid with Christ in God. It is a place of safety.
Nothing can touch, affect or shake this life. As Christ is unshakable,
so we are unshakable. As Christ transcends all things, we also
transcend all things. As Christ is before God, so we too are before Him.
Let us therefore bring every thought captive to this reality. (2Cor 10:5)
"Greater is He that is in you than he that is in the world." (1John 4:4)
The life of the Son perfectly pleases the Father. “Christ is our life”
“He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne,
as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”  Revelation 3:21
An “overcomer” is one who has risen above any desire for expression of the earthly, and is capable of giving expression to the heavenly. There is a foundational “quality” which relates to our becoming an overcomer.  It is “transparency” in our life experience.  The Lord is calling those who earnestly seek Him, into this experience of becoming transparent in His presence. We are not called to just become “polished” on the outside (religious).  But rather, to be so changed within, that we become the expression of the life of Jesus (spiritual).
Our heart’s desire is that you know the One who loves you with a perfect love. That you might develop a relationship with Him that never stops maturing.  No matter how difficult your life is now, you can submit to the hand of God.  He has made a divine appointment with you today.  If you look back throughout your whole life He has been there.  Whispering sometimes, calling to you to follow Him.  Today His voice is much clearer.  Today is the day that you must begin to follow Him.  In times past you went your own way.  But now the time is short and God wants to prepare you to serve Him.  All you must do is yield to His Holy Spirit.  Present yourself to the Lord to be used by Him.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-15

New International Version (NIV)

1"There is an appointed time for everything.  And there is a time for every event under heaven

2 A time to give birth, and a time to die; A time to plant, and a time to uproot what is planted.
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; A time to tear down, and a time to build up.
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; A time to mourn, and a time to dance.
5 A time to throw stones, and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace, and a time to shun embracing.
6 A time to search, and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep, and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear apart, and a time to sew together; A time to be silent, and a time to speak.
8 A time to love, and a time to hate; A time for war, and a time for peace.
9 What profit is there to the worker from that in which he toils?

10 I have seen the task which God has given the sons of men with which to occupy themselves.

11 He has made everything appropriate in its time.  He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.

12 I know that there is nothing better for them than to rejoice and to do good in one's lifetime;

13 Moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor, it is the gift of God.

14 I know that everything God does will remain forever; there is nothing to add to it and there is nothing to take from it, for God has
so worked that men should fear Him.

15 That which is has been already, and that which will be has already been, for God seeks what has passed by."

V. 1 - "There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven"
God appoints the times and Seasons
    1. These words are words for every person, in every place, in every circumstance.  God has appointed the times and seasons, the events of our lives, the happy and the sad, the easy and the difficult.
    2. On one hand this can bring worry, but on the other hand, it should bring you hope because we know that God is in control.
    3. God exalts and humbles the same person.  He raises nations up and brings them down.
    4. Even the day of our death has been set.
    5. God is in control.
Sometimes you may wonder about that.  I mean, it is easy to doubt that God has it all together when you look at the world. It doesn't seem to be doing all that well:
Crime is up, abortion is up, homosexuality is on the rise, the nation is in debt, etc.  It can be pretty discouraging.
But, God has got it all under control.
God has a purpose in what He does even if we have a hard time understanding what that purpose is.
      1. Romans 8:28, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."
We live in a world of Change
The evidence of change is all around us:
Spring becomes Summer.  Summer becomes Fall.  Fall becomes Winter.  Winter becomes Spring.  The young become aged and the new becomes old.
My computer runs slower and my body gets weaker.....
And the times change. The millennium is here.  Wellspring is closing.
Change: You will be wondering about where to go to next year.
      1. But don't worry.  God is in control.
    1. Did you know that change is good.
      1. Change helps you not become grace-potato Christians.
      2. Change helps you learn to adapt to new situations and to grow inside.

    1. Christians go through some of the greatest changes.
      1. First we are blind, dead sinners.  Then we are made alive.
      2. Then we discover more of our sinfulness and God continues to change our hearts.
        1. God wants to make our hearts more like his.
    2. Change can be quite good.
      1. Change stretches you.
        1. It challenges you by causing you to grow through the trials and tribulations of life.
      2. Change keeps you from getting bored.

    1. Are you the same person you were 10 years ago?  5 years ago?  1 year ago?
    2. Even though there are things that are contradictory, each has its place.
  1. However, God Does not Change
    1. Imaging what it would be like if God changed on us.
      1. What if one day he were nice and another day he was mean.
      2. Or what if he altered between merciful and judgmental, or one day he decided to answer occurs in the next he did not.
    2. I thank God that he is unchangeable.
    3. That means you can count on Him to always be there and to do the right thing.
    4. He wont' change His mind about you.

  1. God has set everything for its time so enjoy yourself.
(vv. 12-13, AIl know that there is nothing better for them than
to rejoice and to do good in one's lifetime; 13 moreover, that every man who eats and drinks sees good in all his labor, it is the gift of God.)
    1. You should make the best of each event and of each season of change.
    2. You should enjoy your life.  It's okay to have fun as a Christian.
      1. Enjoy your children if you have them.  Enjoy your, your home, your health, and enjoy the fact that you that has done well and worshiped God.
      2. Enjoy going fishing, shopping at the mall, washing dishes, coming to church, etc.
    3. God has made everything beautiful in his time.
      1. Even the painful things are set in place by God
    4. Everything has its purpose, even the cold winter storms that bring rain.
    5. You must wait with patience for the full revelation of God's mysterious providence.
      1. All you can see is the middle of God's work, not its end.  He knows the beginning from the end and He has you where He wants you.
    6. But also, set aside place in your heart where you trust God to provide all of your needs because he loves you so much.
    7. So, I will leave you with v. top 10 things you won't have to worry about in the coming years.
      1. The Bible will still have the answers.
      2. Prayer will still work.
      3. The Holy Spirit will still move.
      4. God will still inhabit praise.
      5. There will still be anointed preaching.
      6. There will still be the singing of praise.
      7. God will still pour out blessings on His people.
      8. There will be room at the cross for His children.
      9. Jesus still loves you.
      10. Jesus still saves.

Frequently Asked Questions about the Feasts written in Lev 23

1. Q: Aren’t these Jewish Feasts?

A: God calls them “His Feasts” in Lev 23:2. Furthermore, these appointments were given to all 12 tribes of Israel.
Jews descend from Judah, which is only one tribe of Israel. The reason they are known as “Jewish Feasts” is because the Jews are the ones who obey and keep these appointed days. But like His Commandments, these feasts were also given to His People, Israel.

2.  Q: Why do we, as gentiles, need to commemorate these feasts if they were given to Israel?

A:
(First of all read the definitions of Jew & Gentile here) A simple reason is that God said they were “His Appointed times”. The word “Seasons” in Gen 1:14 and “Feasts” in Lev 23:2 is the same word (Strong’s Dictionary – H4150 – Moed – Appointed time). Which means God talked about these appointed times at creation itself, when He created the Sun, Moon and Stars.

The 10 Commandments were only given to Israel. Don’t we need to Keep His Commandments even though it was given to Israel? How can we then pick and choose what to obey and what not to?

  1. : Did Yeshua teach us to commemorate these feasts?

A: Yeshua kept the Feasts, thereby showing us how we should follow Him, even though there is no record of Him saying that we have to keep them (Luke 2:39-52, John 2:23, John 7:37-39). The bottom line is, that Yeshua taught people to obey God & His Word(John 14:24) and The Feasts/Appointments of God are part of His Word.

  1. Q: Did Paul & the 1st Century church keep these feasts and teach about it?
    A: The 1st Century
church including Paul, would have kept all of the feasts in obedience to God. Some of them are recorded as well. (Acts 2:1-4, 18:21, 20:6, 20:16 / 1 Cor 16:5-9 ,5:7-8). Paul asked people to keep the Feasts(1Cor 5:8). Paul even asked people, not to let anyone judge them for keeping the Feasts(Col 2:16) - this verse is commonly misinterpreted as Paul saying not to let anyone judge them for not keeping the feasts(Read Q6 on this link for more info).

  1. Q: Aren’t the Feasts only up till Yeshua?
A: Then why did Paul and the Apostles keep them? The best evidence for this question lies in prophecies that are yet to come to pass about Yeshua’s 2nd coming. We will need to keep these feasts even when Christ returns in the future (Zechariah 14:16-19 / Isaiah 66:22,23). So are we to believe that the Feasts were in effect unto the 1st Century Church. Now it is invalid. And it will be in effect again when Yeshua returns?

   6. Q: How am I supposed to keep the Feasts?

A: Read the Scriptures and obey whatever God says. These are not rituals in any way. You do not need to light special candles and say special prayers. Just obey what God has said in His Word to the best of your ability, even if you are alone in doing it.

We are walking in today:  Hanukkah--Feast of Dedication
Thank You Elohim for sending Your servant, Pastor Wagner to teach on Hanukkah, the feast of the dedication.  Fiveamprayer take time out to research and study the scriptures that we would know about the Lord God's appointed times.  We have some serious and tough questions we must answer--will we conform to the world today or stand like those who Jews of history who would not conform to the Hellenization that was taking place?  Who will you serve--the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob or someone else?  Will you stand dedicated and set apart to the Holy One of Israel?  The King of kings and the Lord of lords?  He comes to bring us His word, His teaching and instruction.  Won't you show up for His appointed times?  Why show up outside of the appointed time?  Praise Your name Adonai that we now have understanding of when we are to meet with the Lord God Almighty!  Thank You for teaching us about Your appointed times!  Who or what are you conforming to?  It is according to the word of God--the Bible?  Or would you rather serve man-made dates and times outside His appointed times? Joshua 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.  To hear this message again click here.

Being Chosen

1 Peter 2:9; Matthew 20:16; Deuteronomy 7:5-6

We are walking in today:  Being Chosen
Thank You Elohim for sending Your servant Dr. Phyllis Darden for coming to the line this morning to let us know that we are hand picked by the hand of the Lord God Almighty. Fiveamprayer we must understand that we were specifically chosen for His purpose and plan.  There is a specific ministry that we are assigned for.  Let us be found as willing vessels to Adonai.  We have gotta know who are in Him! To here this message again click here.

One candle is added to the menorah each night. The first night, you light only the shammus (the one at a different height) and one Chanukkah candle. By the eighth night, you light all of the candles.
Candlelighting Procedure Candles should be added to the menorah from right to left (like Hebrew writing). See animation at right. The shammus candle is lit first. While holding the shammus candle, recite the following blessings.

Blessing over Candles
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
Who has sanctified us with His commandments and commanded us
to light the lights of Chanukkah. (Amen)
Blessing for Chanukkah
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe
Who performed miracles for our ancestors in those days at this time
Shehecheyanu (first night only)
Blessed are you, Lord, our God, sovereign of the universe

who has kept us alive, sustained us, and enabled us to reach this season (Amen)

After reciting the blessings, use the shammus to light the Chanukkah candles from left to right (newest to oldest). See animation at top. Candles should be left burning until they go out on their own. They must burn for more than half an hour. Standard Chanukkah candles burn for about an hour.

Thanksgivukkah The similarities – and essential differences – between Thanksgiving and Hanukkah

by Rabbi Benjamin Blech
It will never again happen in our lifetimes – unless you are somehow still alive 70,000 years from now.
This year the first night of Hanukkah will coincide with the American holiday of Thanksgiving. The latkes will share their prominent place at the festive meal with the turkey. Small wonder that some have already humorously decided that this year we ought to call the day by a new name – Thanksgivukkah.
In all seriousness, a “coincidence” of this magnitude requires some reflection. This is a perfect time to give some thought to the essential difference between the motivation for the American day of expressing gratitude to God and the Jewish rationale for our Festival of Lights. Because although thankfulness is the theme behind both of these holidays, they are significantly unlike each other in their emphasis on the particular reason that calls forth our response of appreciation to the Almighty.
As human beings we have two basic needs. One is physical. Because we are flesh and blood we require food to sustain us. Without sustenance we could not live. That is why there is a biblical obligation to bless God at the conclusion of every full meal, defined as one in which we have partaken of bread, the biblical staff of life. “And you shall eat, and you should be satiated, and you shall bless the Lord your God” (Deut. 9:7).
Food satisfies our physical cravings; Torah responds to our deeper need for purpose and meaning.
That is one of only two biblically mandated blessings. The other? The blessing over the study of Torah. Food is essential for our bodies but Torah is at least just as important for the preservation of our souls. Food allows us to live; Torah gives us a reason for living. Food satisfies our physical cravings; Torah responds to our deeper need for purpose and meaning to our existence.
We are a duality going back to the story of the creation of Adam who was formed from the dust of the earth and the breath of the divine. We need our bodies to house our souls; we need our souls to validate our presence in the world.
All other blessings in Jewish tradition come by way of rabbinic obligation. They are post-biblical efforts on the part of the rabbis to ensure greater awareness of God in our daily lives. But the Torah is primarily concerned with human recognition of the two major mainstays of our existence. We need to acknowledge the great gifts that make possible our physical as well as our spiritual survival – our daily bread and our opportunity to peruse the words of God’s Torah.
It is no coincidence then that holidays reflect sensitivity to these two different divine favors that we have found bestowed upon us in special moments of history.
The First ThanksgivingOne need not be Jewish to grasp the concept of gratitude as it applies to God’s wondrous role in providing for the needs of our bodies. That indeed was what prompted the pilgrims to proclaim a special day of Thanksgiving. The "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in 1621. They based it, they wrote, on the biblical holiday of Sukkot, the festival of the harvest. It was a feast that lasted three days, and was attended by about 53 Pilgrims and 90 American Indians. The New England colonists became accustomed to regularly celebrating "thanksgivings”, thanking God for the blessings of the end of a drought as well as of abundant crops and material blessings.
Thanksgiving became a national holiday in the United States by way of proclamation of the 16th President, Abraham Lincoln. In the middle of the American Civil War, President Lincoln, proclaimed a national Thanksgiving Day, to be celebrated on the final Thursday in November 1863. The document, written by Secretary of State William Seward, reads as follows:
The year that is drawing towards its close, has been filled with the blessings of fruitful fields and healthful skies. To these bounties, which are so constantly enjoyed that we are prone to forget the source from which they come, others have been added, which are of so extraordinary a nature, that they cannot fail to penetrate and soften even the heart which is habitually insensible to the ever watchful providence of Almighty God.
To this day, Thanksgiving remains as a powerful reminder of America’s recognition of God’s role in our national prosperity. Our tables overflow with the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, testimony to heavenly blessings bestowed upon us that grant our bodies the sustenance they require. In biblical terms, Thanksgiving is a sequel to the biblically mandated Birkat Ha-mazon, the Grace after Meals in which we express gratitude to the One Above “who feeds the world in his goodness with grace, with kindness and with mercy.”
Spiritual BlessingBut Thanksgiving does not address another kind of thankfulness we owe to God. Its emphasis on material blessings requires another component that has its source in the second blessing demanded of us by the Bible. It is the blessing for the spiritual part of our lives. It is the thanks we need to recite before the study of Torah, a blessing that alerts us to the hunger of our souls and our yearning to be nourished by the sacred.
On the Jewish calendar that blessing has a historic source in the story of Hanukkah. To speak of Hanukkah as a military victory of the Maccabees is to totally misunderstand its meaning. There have been many moments in our past when we have survived the threat of physical destruction. They are not Hanukkah. The Jews in the Seleucid Empire did not need to fear physical death. Antiochus was not bothered by the survival of Jews; what he wanted at all costs to prevent was the survival of Judaism. His decrees were against the observance of Torah. Jews could readily find their lives spared if they would be willing to forfeit their faith.
Hanukkah is a holiday whose story is perhaps most relevant to our own days. Its threat was not to our bodies, but our souls. The danger was not death but disappearance by way of assimilation.
How appropriate, the Sages note, that the ritual of Hanukkah emphasizes the use of oil. For eight nights it is the source of the light that fills our homes and our synagogues. Oil has a unique and distinct property. All other liquids, when mixed, lose their individual identity and become unrecognizable. Oil however refuses to mix. Try to stir it with water and it refuses to “assimilate”; it rises to the top and remains distinctive and identifiable.
Jews, like the oil of Hanukkah, will never totally assimilate.
It is the ideal symbol for the Hanukkah story which recounts the miracle of those who championed commitment to the truths of Sinai over the temptations of secularism. The Greeks sought to transform the world to their belief in the holiness of beauty. The Jews saw as their mission the message of the beauty of holiness. Two philosophies were at war with each other. And miraculously, the spiritual ideal proved triumphant.

For those of us today who are frightened by studies which question the possibility of Jewish survival in the face of seemingly rampant assimilation, we need to remind ourselves that the miracle of Hanukkah is our affirmation that we will always persevere in our faith. Hanukkah teaches us that the light of our tradition, which some might say doesn’t even have the capacity to last for one night, will against all physical laws of nature miraculously grow stronger and brighter. And Jews, like the oil of Hanukkah, will never totally assimilate.
Hanukkah then is the historic sequel to the blessing over Torah. It commemorates our religious survival against all odds, the victory of the spiritual over the profane, the sacred over the sacrilegious.
And when Thanksgiving and Hanukkah coincide we find ourselves doubly blessed. We will be able to offer thanks to God on the same day for both our spiritual and material blessings. Let us delight in this extremely rare opportunity to bless God for the food for our bodies as well as the survival of our faith that grants us spiritual sustenance for our souls.

True Repentance.

Acts 3:19; Matthew 27:3: Psalms 119:128: Job 42:5, 6; 2 Corinthians 7:10; Psalms 51; 109:21, 22; Psalm 130:4

We are walking in today:  True Repentance.

Fiveamprayer, the Lord God Almighty comes through His servant Minister Troy to speak on true repentance.  Let us truly search our hearts and find if we have really turned from that thing!  Not merely from the consequences thereof, but because it is not what our Heavenly Father has taught us to do!   There are three kinds of repentance found in the following Greek words:

Metamelomai-- change of mind, due to sin but not a change of heart
Metanoeo-- change of mind after seeking knowledge, repenting to change mind and purpose
Metanoia-- true repentance, change of mind, purpose and life.  Making a  change 180 degree--to turn away, new direction

Are we walking in Evangelical repentance?  A true since of one's own guilt and sinfulness; apprehension of God's mercy in Christ; actual hatred of sin?  Let us get into the scriptures of the Lord God Almighty and take a selah moment to look at ourselves--have we truly repented?  Have we change direction and turned back to our righteous and holy God?  Remember, Fiveamprayer, He had us to remember on Monday but have you turned and aligned yourself with Him and His teaching and instructions?  To hear this message of true repentance again click here.

Praises be to the name of the Lord God Almighty!  He has delivered us out of spiritual bondage!  Hallelujah!  For were the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty!  Thank Him for bringing you out our of Egypt and keeping you in the wilderness!  We are no longer seeking the keys to a kingdom but keys of a kingdom.  Which kingdom?  Heaven!  He sent His Torah after us to bring us to correction that we would walk in knowledge, understanding and wisdom.  That we, Fiveamprayer would take what He is teaching us to walk out in our lives and teach others to do the same!  Give Him glory!  Give Him praise!  He alone the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob can do these things for it was He plan from the very beginning!    Thank You for breaking bonds and chains--that we are all coming out from among them!  Thank You for delivering us out, of loosing our hearing while sitting in the pews!  Thank You for turning us away from the traditions of men!  Thank You Elohim for correcting us!  Fiveamprayer, He loves us so much that He comes to teach us that we would get it right with Him!  Fiveamprayer, take time out to remember where He has brought you from!  How many times does He tell His children, Israel to remember?  That what He speaks to bring to our remembrance?  What is it that we have forgotten that has brought us to this place?  What have we left off doing that has brought us to this state?  What is it that Adonai comes to remind us of?  His teaching and instruction, His principle, His statues and ordinances--His Torah!  Thank You Yahweh!  Thank You for teaching us to walk in obedience to Your good law--for every kingdom and land has laws to protect and guide the people according to the heart and mind of the King!  To hear more of this message on remembrance click here.
