About Study

The understanding of the ancient sages concerning study is much more penetrating than today’s modern view. They compared study to life itself and saw it as something that must be pursued daily even to the last day of one’s life. They also recognized that study was a way to approach the Father in worship. All this is something that challenges contemporary attitudes towards study.

Study, FIVE AM  is about planting the word in the life of the believer. It cannot be done with a superficial or cursory reading of the Scriptures. Whatever is planted in the heart is what can be drawn from, especially in times of trouble and despair.

Wisdom versus Knowledge

These two concepts are sometimes used interchangeably but they are very different. Wisdom relates to practical application like common sense, reason, or decision-making. Knowledge is simply information and facts. Knowledge, in itself, does not lead to right conduct or behavior; it is only wisdom that can guide the believer to righteous living. Knowledge for knowledge sake can also lead to error. The goal, therefore, is to always gain wisdom.

Sound Teaching

There are numerous quotes in the Scripture from Rav Shaul (Paul) that relate to knowledge, wisdom and understanding, especially in both books of Timothy. Consider reading Timothy, He was very concerned that believers walk in right counsel in order not to be deceived by the latest teaching of the day. This is a problem that we still must battle today. In addition to Timothy, I recommend reading First and Second Peter.

The Pitfalls in Hebrew community and the biggest stumbling block for the Hebrew Roots and Messianic communities is acquiring knowledge that builds oneself up, rather than the Body. It is dangerous to elevate knowledge, FIVE AM  over our relationship with the Father,  We are called, therefore, we are to walk humbly before our God in all circumstances.

The Pitfalls in Christian community is that, there is a measure of laziness in the faith community that reflects the culture we live in. Sometimes it is easier to be fed then it is to dig. This is part of a class of dependency that exists in the culture at large and which has unfortunately crept into congregations. Those that are lazy with the word of God are those who are easily deceived.

The Pitfalls for Teachers is the tendency to put teachers on a pedestal. This is dangerous for the teacher as well as the student. A daily evaluation of one’s behavior, motives and sphere of influence is essential. A teacher must guard the heart closely to prevent unhealthy influences that can cause deception. A teacher must be held to account and a teacher must remain a willing vessel that the Father/Yahweh can use. Most of all, a teacher must remain humble.

Biblical hermeneutics is the study of methods of interpretation dealing with the books of the Bible, However Jewish Hermeneutics Traditional Hebraic hermeneutics is based on the Tanakh ( the Torah, The Prophets, and The Writings), which is considered by the sages to be without error.

Application, this is probably the most significant aspect of study, FIVE AM,  Remember the goal of study is to see lives changed and restored. It will take time to process all the material you have gathered, evaluate the patterns and uncover a Spiritual Truth. That Truth, Spiritual Truth,  will bring restoration in your life and in the lives of those around you. Allow The Holy Spirit to reveal the Spiritual Application, to you.

I would like to encourage those of you who do not know Hebrew, to make every effort to learn the Hebrew alphabet.

Your goal is to be able to recognize The 22 letters and the 5 final forms.

The Hebrew alphabet of 22 letters can be split into two groups of eleven letters. The first group indicates our “rescue” ... the fact that Yeshua rescued us out of the world, through our faith and His Faithfulness, in His atoning death on the cross/The Execution Stake.

And the second group of eleven letters points to our “race” ... the fact that we are called on to endure to the end, in faith in Jesus Christ, and that our strength in perseverance is drawn from Him.

The Word of God, in The Tanakh/The Old Testament, promised that God would institute a new/ Renewed covenant with Israel. Jeremiah chapter 31 verse 31 promised: “Behold, the days are coming,” declares Yahweh, “when I will make a New Covenant (in Hebrew, A Brit Chadashah) with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah ...”

**The Tanakh/The Old Testament Scriptures end without the fulfillment of this promise. The Word of God is “incomplete” at this point, However, in Yeshua/Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, the Scriptures are completed – The circle is completed.

Hebrew--Why study the Tanakh (Torah, God’s Teaching & Instructions); The Prophets; The Nevi’im, The Writings the Ketuvim

Answer: There are many reasons to study , The Tanakh/ The Old Testament. For one, the Old Testament lays the foundation for the teachings and events found in the New Testament/The Brit Chadashah. The Bible, It is a progressive revelation. If you skip the first half of any good book, FIVE AM and try to finish it, you will have a hard time understanding the characters, the plot, and the ending. In the same way, The New Testament/ Brit Chadashah only completely understood when we see its foundation of the Events, Characters, Laws, Sacrificial System, Covenants, and Promises of The Tanakh /The Old Testament. 

If we only had the New Testament/ The Brit Chadashah, we would come to the Gospels and not know why the Jews were looking for a Messiah (a Savior King). We would not understand why this Messiah was coming (Isaiah 53), and we would not have been able to identify Jesus of Nazareth as the Messiah through the many detailed prophecies that were given concerning Him [e.g., His birth place (Micah 5:2), His manner of death (Psalm 22, especially verses 1, 7–8, 14–18; Psalms 69:21),

My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
    Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?

All who see me mock me;
    they make mouths at me; they wag their heads;
8 “He trusts in the Lord; let him deliver him;
    let him rescue him, for he delights in him!”

History; we believe God ordained it, organizes it, and moves it towards a meaningful, definite, and certain purpose, RIGHT?

So, a correct understanding of The Tanakh/ The Old Testament history enables us to understand The original message to the original audience at the original time and place; Min. Jeanette and that having done this, The bridge to The present message is far easier and safer to construct. FIVE AM

Many history books simply relate The What, The When, The Where, and even The How of each event. Not many attempt to answer The “Why?” question, FIVE AM and those that do, usually prove laughably unreliable.

In contrast, Biblical History, It has a clear purpose: It is a Progressive Revelation of The mind and Heart of God for the benefit of needy sinners. Yahweh is the subject and The hero of The Bible. Therefore, when we read a Tanakh/ an Old Testament narrative, We should ask three questions:

1. What does this story reveal about God/Yahweh?
2. How is this intended to help needy sinners?
3. What role does this story play in the larger and longer biblical story?

The last question will help prevent us from reading the chapters as disconnected dots and unrelated atoms.

Psalm 40:7 is a key verse to understand, in the Bible. It will also be a foundational verse in our Bible Study.

     "Lo, I (Jesus/Yeshua) have come, in the volume of the book (The Bible) it is written of me"

           We know that this verse is speaking about Yeshua because it is quoted in Hebrews 10:7.

Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O God,
    as it is written of me in the Volume of the book.’”(The Bible)

So, therefore; (Psalm 40:7 = Hebrews 10:7)

           The volume (book) of the Bible is written about the Messiah and His role in the Redemptive Plan of God.

The Tanakh/The Old Testament, Confirms that the Law (Torah), Prophets (Nevi'im), and the Writings, Psalms, Proverbs etc… (Chetuvim) speak about Yeshua further confirming our understanding of Psalm 40:7.

            The Jewish people refer to the Old Testament as The TeNaCh.

           THE TeNaCh,  This is an acronym for the order which the Old Testament is laid out in a Hebrew Bible:

            a.  Law/Torah - First five books 
            b.  Prophets - Nevi'im (Isaiah, Jeremiah etc.) 
            c.  Writings - Chetuvim (Psalms, Proverbs etc.)

            Jesus/Yeshua referred to the Old Testament in this manner (Luke 24:44)

The Bible , FIVE AM is a book that communicates God's plan for the world   *  And the role that the Messiah (Yeshua/Jesus) will play in fulfilling   *  That plan.                                                     
         If the Bible is Yahweh, communicating his plan to us, we must understand The Laws of Communication, RIGHT? FIVE AM  How do we communicate? You ask?   We communicate through 1) Language  2) Culture   3) Customs  4) Idioms 
        A.  The original Biblical language ---> Hebrew

         B.  The culture is the Hebraic culture of the nation of Israel. The setting of this culture was the Middle East. In order to fully understand the Bible, we must understand the Geography and History of the land of Israel and its people.

               So, we need to Study the Hebraic heritage which Yahweh gave to His people which includes having an understanding of The Sabbath, The new moon, and The Biblical Feast Days so that we can better understand The first and Second comings of Yeshua/Jesus, the Messiah (Col 2:16-17).

        C.  A custom is associated to the culture. We must understand the customs which God gave to the nation of Israel to fully understand His instruction to us (Romans 9:2-5, I Chronicles 28:11-13)

        D.  An idiom, is a phrase, a saying or slang that is understood in the language, culture, and customs of a given group of people at a given period of time.

Let's consider an example of how God/Yahweh gave the Hebrew language to communicate His spiritual truths.

5:1, and Ruth 4:18. This is the Hebrew word "Toldah/Toldot". It is the word (#8435) in the Strong's Concordance.

             Regarding the words in the Old Testament (TeNaCh), Jesus/Yeshua said in Matthew 5:17-18  that every jot (Yod -- the smallest letter in the Hebrew alphabet) and tittle (Tagin -- the decoration crowns on some Hebrew letters in the Bible) will be fulfilled. Here, Jesus/Yeshua is highlighting the significance of the Hebrew language in communicating the truths in the Bible.

The Bible, It will define itself. We do not need to mix our own interpretation of the Bible.

METHOD OF INTERPRETING SCRIPTURE

        A.  Bible interpretation involves "comparing spiritual things with spiritual things" (scripture with scripture),

(I Cor 2:13)

This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words.

        B.  This truth, It requires us to "study to show thyself approved" (II Tim. 2:15).

        C.  In comparing spiritual things with spiritual things (scripture with scripture), by the mouth of two or three witnesses is every scripture established (Deut. 19:15, II Cor. 13:1, Matt 18:16, John 8:16-17).

Final Warnings

13 This is the third time I am coming to you. Every charge must be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses.

              Jesus/Yeshua established that there are three witnesses which testify that He is the Messiah (Luke 24:44). These are: Law/Torah, Prophets (Nevi'im),  Writings; Psalms, Proverbs etc… (Chetuvim) – The TeNaCh. Which most known by most, as the Old Testament.

        D.  No scripture is of any private interpretation. (II Peter 1:20-21).

        E.  This requires us TO STUDY the scripture so that we are not in error (Mark 12:24, Acts 17:11, Acts 18:24-28, I Cor 1:18,21-24).

 The Tanakh/The Old Testament History is Redemptive History, FIVE AM

God actively directs human history for the purpose of redeeming sinners to Himself. The Holy Spirit inspired the writers of The Old Testament/ The Tanakh to record what would graciously reveal that redemptive purpose, and even the Redeemer Himself (Luke 24:27). The Biblical history, then, is not just facts to teach us theology. These historical facts serve to bring in God’s elect. What greater motive do we need to study it than that these Scriptures are able to make us wise unto salvation (2 Tim. 3:15).

A study of the Old Testament/The Tanakh is also important for understanding the Hebraic customs mentioned in passing in the New Testament/The Brit Chadashah. We would not understand the way the Pharisees had perverted God’s law by adding their own traditions to it, or why Yeshua/Jesus was so upset as He cleansed the temple courtyard, or where Yeshua got the words He used in His many replies to adversaries. 

The Old Testament records numerous detailed prophecies that could only have come true if the Bible is Yahweh’s Word, not man’s (e.g., Daniel 7 and the following chapters). Daniel’s prophecies give specific details about the rise and fall of nations. These prophecies are so accurate, in fact, that skeptics choose to believe they were written after the fact.

We should study The Tanakh/ The Old Testament because of the countless lessons it contains for us. By observing the lives of the characters of the Old Testament, we find guidance for our own lives. ****We are exhorted to trust Yahweh no matter what (Daniel 3). ****We learn to stand firm in our convictions (Daniel 1) and to await the reward of faithfulness (Daniel 6). We learn it is best to confess sin early and sincerely instead of shifting blame (1 Samuel 15). We learn not to toy with sin, because it will find us out (Judges 13—16). We learn that our sin has consequences not only for ourselves but for our loved ones (Genesis 3) and, conversely, that our good behavior has rewards for us and those around us (Exodus 20:5–6).

A study of The Tanakh/The Old Testament also helps us understand prophecy. The Tanakh/The Old Testament contains many promises that Yahweh will yet fulfill for the Hebrew nation. The Old Testament reveals such things as the length of the Tribulation, how Christ’s future 1,000-year reign fulfills His promises to the Jews, and how the conclusion of the Bible ties up the loose ends that were unraveled in the beginning of time.

The problem is, if we always play the commodity-time game, we lose touch with the sanity of organic time, Life Is Lived In Organic Time, Organic time is the voice of God.

To prevent this lost of touch with the sanity of Organic Time,  we have the Sabbath, a time to not do the things we do for commodity time.

Like, most people, I too play the commodity-time game, but only for six days of the week. On the seventh day, the Sabbath, I stop the game and return to Organic time. The dividing line between the two kinds of time is drawn by the sunset on Friday- and our acknowledgement of it.  That time is  the Sabbath.  Once a week, and Once a week on the Sabbath,  I’m placed in a full day of sane time, so that I don’t lose my contact with the real universe. Some might be asking how or what does this have to do with studying to show thou self approved, if the The Tanakh/The Old Testament was studied how Yahweh designed it to be Studied, we would know that Observing and Respecting the Sabbath once a week, is our Appointed Sane Time.

The Sabbath provides a weekly dose of sane time, but in the contemporary world most of us need more than that. If we are to survive the commodity-time demands of the nine-to-five (or eight-to six) work day, we need a daily dose of Sabbath or its equivalent.

If this sounds unrealistic or impossible, it is because we have bought the fiction that the nature of time is established only by external, objective forces. We’ve lost sight of our own control over certain aspects of time.

From the Inner, subjective point of view, time is our most malleable commodity. It is infinitely compressible and expandable. We have all had experiences that lasted only a second or two when measured by a clock, but were more eventful and “longer” than others that objectively could be measured in days or weeks. In an impending auto accident, between the moment when you know it’s going to happen and the moment it actually does, subjective time expands as if the event were taking place in slow motion.

****We can use time to fit our needs if we know how and if we remember to.

HUMAN BEING AS CHILD OF GOD

The Psalms tell us this : “you are my child. Today I have begotten you.” When need to reconnect with this great awareness, we are regenerated. We need to reconnect with it every day, if only for a moment- it reestablishes our natural in the order of the universe. When this connection happens we are filled again with light,  and acceptance. For it to happen, we have to make time. Our ability to connect with the universe is especially strong at dawn and dusk, sunrise and sunset.

Whenever you can, spend that time walking your human being, walking your soul. This is how you can strengthen your connection with  Organic time, Yahweh’s Voice.

******The special quality of dawn and dusk doesn’t have to be taught. All of creation knows about it-the birds and beasts in the forest; the creatures of the sea, who rise and fall to different levels of the ocean; in the city, even the pigeons coo at daybreak. FIVE AM

In summary, the Old Testament allows us to learn how to love and serve God, and it reveals more about God’s character. It Teaches us about our Origin.  It shows through repeatedly fulfilled prophecy why the Bible is unique among holy books—it alone is able to demonstrate that it is what it claims to be: the inspired Word of God. In short, if you have not yet ventured into the pages of The Tanakh/ The Old Testament, you are missing much that Yahweh has available for you.

Steps for truly walking in forgiveness....​

A Separation

      At one time, all of us were in the position with Yahweh that we often find ourselves in with each other. Isaiah 59:2  but your iniquities have made a separation between you and your Elohim, and your sins have hid his face from you so that he does not hear. There was a separation between us that we could not close or heal. When Yahweh called us to follow His Son Yahshua, we were His enemies. He was not our enemy, we were His enemy, and He wanted to have us as His friends, since the whole purpose of His creating us was to love us. This He does without measure. John 3:16. However, our sins separated us from Him. A reconciliation was necessary between us. A reconciliation was not possible with us in the condition that we were in. We could not go back and undo all of our sins or make right all of the wrongs that we had done. We were all under an eternal death sentence. Romans 6:23 Yahweh, in His wisdom and mercy, made a place from which we could have a new beginning, a fresh start with a clean slate. Yahweh made the initial call which began the reconciliation process. John 6:44.

     Through Yahshua, He forgave us, wiped out the past, and set a point at which we could begin again. Colossians 2:13 And you, who were dead in trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, Elohim made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.

      Note this, forgive is a “verb” in Hebrew, Greek, and English. A verb requires action to complete it. Yahweh took this action. John 3:16  For Elohim so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17  For Elohim sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. Colossians 2: 14  having canceled the bond which stood against us with its legal demands; this he set aside, nailing it to the cross. This is the action that completed the verb, forgive. Yahshua is the evidence of Yahweh's forgiveness. It is through Yahshua that our debt was marked paid and our slate wiped clean.

      There is another aspect of Yahweh's forgiveness that We must note at this point. He also put the wrongs of the past out of His mind. Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more. He does not keep a record of our wrongs. 1 Corinthians 13:5 [IGNT] Last part, setting us an example. (More about this later.) Yahweh has the power to do this and we can take Him at His word. Yahweh, in His love and mercy, has created a new point from which we can start. The past is forgotten. From this point forward we must strive not to repeat the wrongs of the past.

       Yahweh has initiated and brought into reality forgiveness and reconciliation. However, this is not just a one time forgiveness. Since we are still carnal we will sin occasionally. ( These are inadvertent sins that He will forgive. Intentional sin is covered in Hebrews 6:1-8,10:26-31)  When we do sin inadvertently Yahweh is faithful and will forgive us. 1 John 1:7-10, 2:1-2 How many times will he forgive us? This question will be answered in the following sections of this study.

Yahweh's Principles

      Yahweh has set the principles of forgiveness and given us an example by using them in forgiving us. It is these same principles that He expects us to use in forgiving others who have wronged us, both those in the faith and those in the world. Why those in the world? Yahweh's forgiveness through Yahshua is not just for us (followers of “The Way”) but for the whole world. 1John 2:1-2  Our forgiveness must be the same way.  

Love, the First Step

      Let us begin now to apply these principles to ourselves in our dealings with others. The first step in forgiveness is love. If we do not love we cannot forgive. The word used most often for love in Hebrew is “Aheb” and in Greek it is “Agapao”. These words are both verbs that denote action to complete.

      Can we truly love someone who has wronged us? We are commanded to do so. (More on this shortly) There is a very important point that we must understand. Mankind, on his own cannot  meet the requirements to love and forgive as Yahweh does. Why? Romans 8:7  Because the carnal mind is enmity against Elohim; for it is not subject to the law of Elohim, nor indeed can be. 8  So then they that are in the flesh cannot please Elohim. 9  But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of Elohim dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Messiah, he is none of his.

       It is the Ruach Ha Qodesh, the Holy Spirit within us that will enable us to obey the commands to love and forgive. Yahweh, through the Holy Spirit, is our teacher and source of our power to obey. He is love. 1 John 4:8  He who does not love does not know Elohim; for Elohim is love. Romans 5:5  and hope does not disappoint us, because Elohim’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us. 1 John 4:19  We love, because he first loved us.  2 Timothy 1:7  for Elohim did not give us a Spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control. Believers have an advantage that those in the world do not have. They have Yahweh as partner and adviser in their life walk together. In the world “two’s company, three’s a crowd”. In Yahweh's way of life, “Two’s company, three’s a blessing”, Yahweh is the third partner in every relationship we have as believers.

      Since the above is true, it is the responsibility for converted recipients of the Ruach Ha Qodesh to follow the principles of love and forgiveness, set by Yahweh and exhibited in Yahshua, and to show that example to those we encounter during our lives. In doing this we are accurately representing our heavenly Father and His Son, and are faithful ambassadors.

       Since love is the first step in forgiveness, let’s investigate Yahweh's definition of love. We will find it in the book of Corinthians.  

Spiritual Mirror

       The bible is our spiritual mirror. When we look in it we must look at how it reflects us personally. It reflects to us what we should be and what Yahweh wants us to be. Our goal in this life walk with Yahweh is to grow to the point that this mirror will be an accurate reflection of us as it is of Him and His Son. In the love chapter we have Yahweh's definition of love. 1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. When we look at the different points in the above scriptures we can see how accurately they reflect Yahweh's love for us. We must look at each of these points and ask how accurately they reflect our love for others. One point I would like to bring to your attention is; it keeps no record of wrongs) Yahweh does not keep a record of our wrongs. Remember; Hebrews 10:17 "I will remember their sins and their misdeeds no more." We must be as willing, as Yahweh is, to forget the wrongs committed against us. When we do this it opens the way for a new beginning. Yahweh has given us this point of new beginning and we also must give this point of new beginning to others as well or this scripture is not a true reflection of us.

      

Fruit of the Spirit

       Another excellent scriptural mirror to look into is the fruit of the Spirit. Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23  gentleness, self-control; against such there is no law. This is the fruit that the Holy Spirit within us must be producing. Notice that the above points are not “fruits” but are all a part of one fruit. If one ingredient is lacking the fruit is not complete. Note that the first ingredient in this fruit that is mentioned is “Love”. Also note from 1 Corinthians 13:13 that of the three things that abide forever, faith, hope, and love, that the most important of these is love. This is because Yahweh is love. 1 John 4:8  He who does not love does not know Elohim; for Elohim is love. I would like to point out an ingredient in this fruit; Patience. This could be the most difficult ingredient to let grow within us. Please note that the first point mentioned in the love chapter is patience. Perhaps it is mentioned first because it is the most important point in showing true love. Without patience with others it is nearly impossible to reflect the rest of the ingredients in both scriptures. With Yahweh's Spirit within us, let us look at the two great commandments, realizing that we do have the power to obey them. Again 2 Timothy 1:7.

The Two Great Commandments

       The first and greatest commandment is to love Yahweh above everything. Matthew 22:36  "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?" 37  And he said to him, "You shall love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. 38  This is the great and first commandment, 39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself. We will fulfil the first great commandment in obeying the second. 1 John 4:20  If any one says, "I love Elohim” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love Elohim whom he has not seen.

       There is something here to take careful note of. The command is to love our neighbour as we love ourselves, not love our neighbour as he loves us. We are to love our neighbour whether he loves us or not. Yahshua tells us this very thing. Matthew 5:46  For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? Luke 6:32  "If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them. How do we show this love even if they don’t? Matthew 5:44  But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  Luke 6:28  Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.  This is not a principle exclusive to the new testament. Yahweh does not change. Exodus 23:4  "If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. 5  If you see the donkey of one who hates you lying under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it, you shall help him to lift it up. The apostle John tells us not to love in words only. 1 John 3:18  Little children, let us not love in word or speech but in deed and in truth. Ephesians 2: 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Messiah Yahshua for good works, which Elohim prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Forgiveness

      Let us look for a moment at what we have learned about the principles of forgiveness as applied by Yahweh. He desired to forgive us. This desire sprang from the great, all encompassing love, He has for us. We were His enemies, disobedient and hostile to Him, yet He forgave us. He reconciled with us while we were His enemies. Take very careful note of this; Yahweh did not require a penalty to be paid by us for our sins. Yahshua paid our penalty.  This concept is very important in our forgiveness of others. The carnal nature wants to get back at those that wrong us. We want to exact a penalty from them. We desire vengeance. This is why there are arguments, assaults, and murders etc. According to the principles of forgiveness set by Yahweh and exhibited in Yahshua, we cannot require a penalty  to be paid by those who wrong us. We must leave it in Yahweh's hands. Consider the following; Proverbs 20:22  Do not say, "I’ll pay you back for this wrong!" Wait for Yahweh, and he will deliver you. (NIV) Romans 12:17  Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all. 1 Thessalonians 5:15  See that none of you repays evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to all. 1 Peter 3:9  Do not return evil for evil or reviling for reviling; but on the contrary bless, for to this you have been called, that you may obtain a blessing.

      Truly converted believers take note. If we claim Yahshua as our Messiah, and we are His ambassadors we must follow His example and represent Him exactly as He is. 1 Peter 2:23  When he was reviled, he did not revile in return; when he suffered, he did not threaten; but he trusted to him who judges justly. We have been called to give praise and honor to Yahweh and Yahshua in word and in deed and to reflect Their love and mercy to those yet in darkness. 1 Peter 2:9  But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, Elohim’s own people, that you may declare the wonderful deeds of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

1 Peter 2:12  Maintain good conduct among the Gentiles, so that in case they speak against you as wrongdoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify Elohim on the day of visitation.

We Set The Standards

     The title of this study is, Yahweh's Principles, Our Standards. In this section we will come to understand that it is us who set the standard that Yahweh will use in forgiving us. Yahweh set the principles but we set the standard. There are many scriptures that verify this, following are a few.  Matthew 6:14  For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father also will forgive you; 15  but if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Notice the prayer outline that Yahshua gave when asked how one should pray, especially,

Matthew 6: 12  and forgive us our shortcomings, as we also have forgiven those who have failed in their duty towards us; (Weymouth Translation, which makes the meaning much clearer.) Note that we are to even ask that Yahweh forgive us with the same standard that we use to forgive others.

     This is a very serious matter not to be taken lightly. If someone has wronged you and you do not forgive them. you have made the judgment that they are not worthy to be forgiven. Consider this;

Matthew 7:2  For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and the measure you give will be the measure you get. If we wish to be shown mercy and be forgiven by Yahweh, we had better set our standards very high in dealing with our fellowman. Note the following; James 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy; yet mercy triumphs over judgment.

      The parable of the unmerciful servant has a wealth of instruction on this subject. Matthew 18:23-34. Pay careful attention to verse 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.  From the heart means that you not only must forgive, but you must want to forgive. This want or desire to forgive comes from the love that we must have for our fellow human. Remember, we have Yahweh's love within us through the Holy Spirit and it is this love that empowers us and that we reflect to our neighbour.  

No Limits

      Since Yahshua’s disciples were still very much carnal minded, they asked a question that is natural to all of us. Matthew 18:21 Then Peter came up and said to him, "Master, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?" 22 Yahshua said to him "I do not say to you seven times, but seventy times seven.” If one wishes to do the math and spend his time counting the wrongs done to us by individuals, then one must forgive an individual four hundred and ninety times. However, keeping in mind that the measure we give others is the measure Yahweh will give us in return, if we are going to count our neighbours sins against us, we most assuredly must be counting the number of times we sin against Yahweh. If we count our neighbours sins, Yahweh will count ours. Consider this scripture; Psalms 32:2  Blessed is the man whose sin Yahweh does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit. Let us strive to follow Yahweh's example and not remember our neighbours sins against us. Jeremiah 31:34, Hebrews 8:12, Hebrews 10:17.

Reconciliation

        With true forgiveness comes reconciliation. Reconciliation is the action that completes forgiveness, whether between us and Yahweh, or us and our neighbor. Remember,  love and forgive are both verbs. This means they require action to complete. Without the action that they demand they are empty words. Lets use James’ instruction concerning faith to help us understand this concept more clearly. It is the same principle. James 2:17 So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. 18  But some one will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith.

      Applying this same biblical principle to forgiveness, it is meaningless without the actions to prove it. As Yahweh provided us with a fresh starting point in our relationship to Him, we must provide that fresh starting point for our brothers and sisters. This is the beginning of reconciliation that completes forgiveness. This principle is doubly important to believers. We will be sure Yahweh hears us if we follow Yahshua’s instruction. Matthew 5:23  So if you are offering your gift at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24  leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. (The inference here is, if you don’t then your gift will not be accepted.)

      This principle can also work in reverse. If you are offering your gift or prayer at the altar of Yahweh  and remember that you have something against your brother (anyone) you must first make that right, and then offer your prayer. (Could this be why prayers go unanswered?) The only way that we can have something against our brother, neighbour, is if there is something that we have not forgiven. If we are harboring ill feelings about someone, then there has been no forgiveness. With forgiveness, ill feeling or resentment is replaced with love and concern for the other party. When the love and concern is present, a new beginning point has been created for the offender, even if he doesn’t know it. This brings a question. If this person does not know that I have forgiven him, how can I be reconciled to him? Perhaps you can’t be right away. But you have created a new starting point that in the future could bear fruit. There is a monumental scriptural example of this very thing, in which we have all received this type of forgiveness before we even knew we were forgiven.

Yahshua’s Example

        Consider Yahshua, Luke 23:34  And Yahshua said, "Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do." And they cast lots to divide his garments. Let us make this very personal. Each and every one of us is the “them” that Yahshua asked His Father to forgive. I was not even born, yet Yahshua asked the Father to forgive me. We are all responsible for the death of Yahshua. We are all guilty of murdering the author of life. I did not know that I was forgiven until I was twenty six years old. However Yahshua had created the new starting point when He forgave me and died to prove it. This starting point of reconciliation did not bear fruit in me for nearly two thousand years. It was His love and kindness that drew me to Him. It will be His love and kindness reflected from you that will at some point bear fruit in the one that you forgive. The first move is yours, and mine, and every truly converted recipient of the Holy Spirit.

       May Yahweh in His love and mercy grant us the desire and the power to follow His principles and set the standard at the highest point and be that beacon in the darkness that reflects His glory to our neighbour.  Matthew 5:14  "You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. 15  Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

John 15:7  If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. 8  By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. 9  As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. 10  If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. 11  These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. 12  "This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.

This morning's teaching will show us the importance of counting the days the way that Yahweh teaches us from the beginning.  Fiveamprayer we can no longer allow creative mathematics to have us miss His appointed times and seasons for the aligning of one event irregardless of the havoc that results for all the other surrounding events.  Our original pattern in Genesis gives us the start of the day measured from evening to morning--Genesis 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. In the Hebraic mindset we are counting up in expectation, yet in the western/Greek mind it is a count down that does not point to an expectation at the end.  We have in the book of Daniel, the messenger Gabriel comes to bring him understanding and skill to know the times and seasons.  Fiveamprayer, the same has happened with us!  Yahweh sends us a message regarding the days, times and seasons that we too will be skilled and understand His appointed times.  The count up that we are looking to for this new year 5776 will be the 120th jubilee and an outpouring of His spirit--100%  Spirit!
This 9th chapter of Daniel has been a major focus for both Jews and Christians alike.  For varied reasons--to show the complete greatness and judgment of Almighty God, Yahweh and a guide to calculate important biblical events and the end times.  When the text is returned to its original Hebrew, it no longer supports the Christian view of the first coming of the Messiah.
We also find the 7 weeks referenced in this portion of scripture, or could it be 7 days?  In counting the days we are to use His guide and measure.  Each week would actually be 7 years.  The Christian view ties this to the exile of Israel to Babylon and the destruction of the temple.  Then years later after the rebuilding of the temple the arrival of the Messiah who came to die not for Himself, but others.  Accounting for the temple reconstruction and the delays in the completion makes this calculation difficult.  In the original Hebrew, does not match the time frame of the redemptive work of Christ at Calvary.  So how can this discrepancy be resolved?  Another calculation for the 7 year difference.  This effects the days allotted for the months and the number of days in a year.  Where in scripture does Yahweh give us the option or ability to change His appointed times and seasons?  The days in a solar year are 365 1/4 the days in the lunar year is 354 days the Hebraic calendar uses both, so that the appointed times are in the proper places there is an extra month that is added to keep the feasts of the Lord in the appropriate places in time. With this understanding of the original count of the days we find that calculations that have evolved through the Christian theologians is in error.  For further clarification the words translated as Messiah, in the original would be moshiach--used most often as anointed one.  In Daniel 9 is it used in reference to the inner most chamber and later--an anointed prince the more accurate translation.  Due to lacking the definite article 'the' or in Hebrew 'ha' this not a specific person but a group of people--Son of Man, the remnant, the witnessing army.
Another difficulty posed by Christian theologians is the 7 and 62 weeks.  They have been added together yet in the Hebraic understanding they would not be listed separately if they were designated for the same time period.  The portion of the text regarding 'he will be no more' is not being cut off but a divine punishment for grievous transgressions.  Fiveamprayer we have to return to the original for His understanding in reading His word.  The biblical calendar uses both the sun and moon as signs for the times and seasons.  For in Genesis He gives us in 1:14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:  The starting point in Daniel 9 to begin this count would cause the  differing time for the Jews and the Christians is the prophetic word versus a human decree.  To hear more of this teaching click here.

This morning Fiveamprayer we will be looking at the midrash.  In some cases, it has been used in Judaic circles as a substitute for the Holy Spirit.  There are many congregations that have drifted from the Holy Spirit led teaching of the scriptures.  Those who still teach scripture have focused on man's commentary as authorized over the Holy Spirit.  In every move of the Holy Spirit there is chaos and opposition where the light of truth invades darkness and error.  Some only seek traditions and rituals of men.  This is a move from the gatherings that Yahweh's people walked in scripture, originally.  Merely making the inclusion of any and all things Jewish that can push out the Holy Spirit.  So what is the midrash?According to scripture midrash can be interpreted as a root of taught or to study, exposition, story, writing or translation, possibly a narrative.  Related to drash which means to seek and inquire or study.  The traditional view of midrash for scripture interpretation was begun by Jewish refugees.  These discussions and writings would later become the Talmud.  This method thrives in Judaism and popular in many Messianic congregations--but should this method be used?  Focused on legal or non-legal view from the exiled Jews from Babylon.  The desire to have the Torah centralized and uniform begun this process to keep the surrounding people from blending in their cultures with them.  This is the time frame that many of the Mishnah was written and compiled. There are three uses of the midrash--how to read and interpret a biblical verse, also refers to a book on the study of scripture and the interpretation of a particular verse.  With the varied understandings of this word and how it can be used needs to be understood.  They are to hold on to the truth and not lean to our own interpretation.  The mystical insight that was only available to some makes for a breeding ground for misunderstanding.  This altering of the plain and simple meaning was lost and not effective in their lives.  This is the correction that Yeshua brings to the Pharisees who were upholding man made laws over the Torah of Yahweh.  Without the Holy Spirit, the man made doctrines that oppose the plain simple meaning of scripture.  This nullifying of the scriptures and making them to no effect in our lives.  Intended purpose of the midrash in messianic congregations, the popular version is an hybrid of the Judaic version.  Some may call it a brainstorm session--some may have a moderator to guide the discussion.  This can be very destructive as other man made inventions.  With so many voicing opinions of the scriptures that is void at structured teachings--can cause those who are new or seeking spiritual food to only hear these arguments.  When there is destructive elements of this midrash, how can it  be corrected?  Yeshua is our example--He proclaimed the Father's truth which requires an anointing for all men who teach or become congregational leaders.  They are to proclaim His truth with His authority!  Saul who later became Paul was to learn the correct  interpretation--as all prophets are to do.  It is by getting understanding directly from Yahweh which is confirmed and agree with His word.  There are those who are false that also teach and do not agree with the scriptures but operate in a vision of their own heart.   We are only to harken to these who are speaking according to scripture.  The Torah has to have the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit has to have the Torah!  To hear this teaching again click here.

Fiveamprayer, we have appointed times that are given to us by our Lord Yahweh where we are fed.  This food feeds our spirit-man.  This our meat in due season.  With this studying and seeking out His word in its entirety, we are no longer in need but provided for lavishly when we meet at His direction and timing.  As we look back from our transition from the church and the Greek mindset that focused solely on the 'new' or second portion of the Bible, we have to go back to get and uphold all of His word.  This action, desire is seen clearly by the Proverbs 31 woman that she gets up early to give meat teaching and living her life according to His word.  With her obedience her family are fed to do the same and she gives a portion to her maidens. Upon closer review we find that the maidens are those who come in late to the instructions and are not moved to obedience to His directions for our lives.  At some point we all fell for the lie that we know better how to live our lives than His commandments and ordinances.  Remember that He with His words set all things in motion, creating the whole world?  This shifting from Yahweh's days and appointed times shifts us out of receiving the meat and drink indeed that Yeshua speaks about at the Passover with His disciples.  With us being out of Yahweh's timing we were missing the meat we were to receive to sustain us!  What appeared to be a small change here and there to better suit our needs led us to a spiritual malnutrition that will cause an emaciated spirit to be stricken feeble and weak.

So these feast days of the Lord are just that, His days appointed for us.  There are spaced at His timing and direction and when we follow in them we have how what we need to satiate us and keep us going.  This is meat in due season!  These spoken words that we have received from Yahweh we are now getting meat.  This moving from milk to meat, from the simple to the complete--positions us for that which He has set forth for us.  This is what many have failed to understand that we are not going to set the determination of what and when.  That was all set up from the beginning!  In our growing maturity they will allow for correction and redirection led of the Holy Spirit.  The distance and time from the original causes us to place things in a lower regard.  We will have that which we are to obtain at His timing, the revelation of His plan and our purpose that He ordained from the beginning. 

What other qualifications are needed for those to obtain this meat in due season?  It is for those who fear, revere, obey and honor Yahweh!   For those who walk in those attributes will follow all of His commands, statues, and ordinance--unaltered to the best of their ability.  These actions align with meeting at His appointed times for meat in due season!  The salvation that Almighty God has for us is tied to our fear or revering, obeying His commandments.  We have been rescued out of what held us bound to live a better and free life in His teaching and instructions.  This is the answer to' I am saved, now what'?  For far too long there was not an sufficient answer that would bring direction into many lives.  This affords us increase in Yahweh in our lives.  This meat has to be in the proper time or season.  This perfectly timed meal gives us direction, revelation of Yeshua, defines our purpose, as well as the characteristics that we are to cultivate.  The closer we look through the Hebraic lens at scripture we come closer to the original understanding and intention of Yahweh's holy word!  To hear this teaching again click here.
