This study this morning is looking at a very familiar scripture that many can and will quote from memory.  But is that a bad thing? Certainly not but the familiarity to the scripture may not allow us to closely listen and consider what is really being said.  Lets take a closer look at this scritpture, that we may find immense comfort in saying, that was also uttered by Christ to the woman at the well.  John 4:23-24 23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. 24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.  So when we look at the scripture slowly we have to look at who are the worshipers and how are they to worship Almighty God, Yahweh?  Have we in error thought that any worship was suitable for the Creator of the universe?  Could we have been fooled into worshiping someone or something else?  Could our worship--not be for real?
So lets take a look at a couple of things.  We have quite a few things to consider.  We have true ignorance, the lack of information or understanding of what is going on.  On the other hand we have the intentional overlooking of what is true to maintain another standard, usually man made.  While this man made standard has been agreed upon by many and has come to identify groups of people who all believe the same--does it make it true?  Does sheer number count give validity to what is in question?  Can there be a fewer number who have determined the truth by seeking and studying scripture, has been revealed by the Holy Spirit that which man made standards could never conceive?  This is similar to those who have studied an object scientifically and have found that what they determined at the beginning is not actually true.  As the study progresses over the years with various scientists the 'fact' changes with more study or research.  This is not the case with that which is true.  The truth is just that, true.  It will never change.  Regardless of the time spent in study and various seekers will only find more truth.  This is the case when we take scripture back to its proper context and original language.  That should actually be our baseline for review, else with mistranslations and incorrect context we are already starting off at a terrible disadvantage that as time continues gets more and more off track from the original point.
There is something that shifted us very early on in our proper worship of Yahweh.  We find in Genesis 3:5 where Eve is speaking to the snake in the garden and became convinced that she needed the fruit of the tree she was directed not to eat, to be made wise like Yahweh.  This lie was to cause doubt in who Eve and Adam were.  Genesis 1:26-28 (KJV) 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  The lie of the serpent is that they would be like Elohim, in their disobedience.  Where else do we see a desire to be like the most high?  Isaiah 14:12-15 (KJV) 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.  This desire to rise to be like the Most High comes from the devil.  When we see that mankind was created in His image yet the devil was not and in the garden both Adam and Eve fell for the lie.  Here lies the danger that leads us back to Yeshua at the well where He tells us that Yahweh is seeking worshipers to worship Him in spirit and in truth.  The belief in the lie in the garden that we can be equal with our Creator means that we would be on same level as Him.  Thus we could worship ourselves.  This terrible error has led many into the idea that they have no need for God because they have wrought all that they have and will have--with their own capabilities.  Yet their 'universe' would not begin to even compare to the handiwork of Yahweh.  This shifting of our thoughts not only changes how we think but also how we operate in the world.  Becoming totally self-sufficient would there be a need for anyone or anything?  However this is a short lived idea that has to be re-manufactured often to keep many attached to it.  Take large storms or other weather events that are termed 'acts of God'.  But how can that be, if you are equal to Him could they be 'acts of Tim'?  Certainly not because we have not that power in and of ourselves.  The other danger in the lie is that those who persist in it, perpetuate it will be clouded into believing it as truth and destroyed by the weight of the deceit that is dissolved by a love for the truth, study of scripture and seeking Him in His word.  The perfect example of this is the Berans who after Paul's teachings would pour over the scriptures to find if what he had said was true.  Not wanting to be swayed by any person, no matter their appearance or elegance with words--they would rejected the teaching if not able to be confirmed by scripture.  How much would our lives change if we did the same?  Truly sought out understanding from His word to be matched up to the teachings that you receive?  To hear more of this weekend mediation click here.
