Shifting from Saul to David, Part 1

1 Samuel 9

We are walking in today:  Shifting from Saul to David, Part 1

Witness new thing throughout the Bible:  H2319 chadash new, new thing, fresh
Isaiah 42:9, 48:5-7, 65:17; Matthew 13:52

1 Samuel 9:16
Tomorrow about this time I will send thee a man out of the land of Benjamin, and thou shalt anoint him to be captain over my people Israel, that he may save my people out of the hand of the Philistines: for I have looked upon my people, because their cry is come unto me.

Bible tells us that David lived by Psalms 105:15 "touch not my anointed nor do my Prophet no harm" and so I pose a question. Aren't we taught to pray for our leaders? Then why is there so much blatant disrespect for the president of the United States?

Handsome beyond all males of Israel, Saul was chosen by Yahweh Himself to be a covering for His people. Let's put it in modern terms, the president of the United States is just that. The president. He is not the king the United States, he is just a spokesperson for the people by the people--if that. Saul was shown to the prophet Samuel, by the way, to anoint him Governor over Israel. This act was because of the cry of the people to be as the surrounding nations who all had kings as rulers. Whereas Yahweh never intended Israel to have a king because Yahweh is the sovereign King.

1 Samuel 8:9-20
(In Isra’el, back in the old days, when someone went to consult God, he would say, “Come, let’s go to the seer”; because a person now called a prophet used to be called a seer.) “Well said,” Sha’ul answered his servant. “Come on, let’s go.” So they went to the city where the man of God was. Ascending the slope to the town they found girls going out to draw water and asked them, “Is the seer here?” The girls answered them, “He’s here, he’s right ahead of you. Hurry now, he just came into the city today, because the people are sacrificing today at the high place. Find him as soon as you enter the city, before he goes up to the high place to eat; because the people won’t eat until he comes and blesses the sacrifice. Afterwards, the ones invited will eat. So go on up, because this is when you will find him.” They went up to the city; and as they entered the city, there was Sh’mu’el coming out toward them to go up to the high place. The day before Sha’ul arrived, Adonai had given Sh’mu’el a revelation: “Tomorrow at about this time I will send you a man from the territory of Binyamin. You are to anoint him prince over my people Isra’el. He will save my people from the power of the P’lishtim, because I have seen my people’s situation, and their cry of distress has come to me.” When Sh’mu’el saw Sha’ul, Adonai said to him, “Here is the man I told you about, the one who is going to govern my people.” Sha’ul approached Sh’mu’el in the gateway and said, “Please tell me where the seer’s house is.” Sh’mu’el answered Sha’ul, “I’m the seer. Go up ahead of me to the high place, because you are going to dine with me today. In the morning, I will let you leave; and I will tell you everything that is on your heart. As for your donkeys that got lost three days ago, don’t worry about them; they’ve been found. Now, who is it that all Israel wants? Isn’t it you, and all your father’s household?”

Yet the disobedience and arrogance of Saul caused him to lose his position of commanding Israel. Yahweh provided Israel with a true king, David Son of Jesse the Bethlehemite of the tribe of Judah. Whose heart was said by Yahweh was after His. He sought and trusted in Yahweh daily in his walk and did nothing on his own accord. Unlike Saul who was given instructions to follow by the prophet Samuel. Who was reluctant at first to lead Israel, he became arrogant and trusting in himself instead of the commandments given to him by the prophet. Not sacrifice till the prophet came to do so. As the sacrifice was not the commander of Israel's job--stay in your lane.

1 Samuel 10:11-15
When those who knew him from before saw him there, prophesying with the prophets, they asked each other, “What’s happened to Kish’s son? Is Sha’ul a prophet, too?” Someone in the crowd answered, “Must prophets’ fathers be special?” So it became an expression — “Is Sha’ul a prophet, too?” When he had finished prophesying, he arrived at the high place. Sha’ul’s uncle said to him and his servant, “Where did you go?” He answered, “To look for the donkeys. When we saw that they hadn’t been found, we went to Sh’mu’el.” “Tell me, please,” said Sha’ul’s uncle, “what Sh’mu’el said to you.”

So assuming and prideful, just like he's giving up his birthright for what he desired to do. Playing with the everlasting sovereignty of Yahweh. This period of Saul lingers today in those who are in leadership positions. Causing them to devalue the position given to them by Yahweh. The Disobedience of Saul called his anointing on him as a commander to leave. Yahweh caused an evil spirit to take root and Saul's heart to taunt him. Wow, you ever wonder why people you are close have that love-hate relationship with you? They just hate you for no reason at all other than doing the job they were supposed to be doing? They refuse to submit to the instructions given to them. Will we be found submitting to His instructions. Yet they can't stand your guts--Unmasking The Jezebel spirit, once again we have to look at the man in the mirror. Are we going to be like Saul? Or will we be like David?  To hear this again click here.
