Ephesus (Rev. 2:1-7) 

      Identification of Christ--He who holds the seven stars in His right hand and walks amongst the seven candlesticks.

     Commendation:

• rejected evil
• patience
• labor
• testing of false apostles
• perseverance

     Complaint:

• lost their first love for Jesus

     Correction:

• remember
• repent
• do the first works again

Judgement:

• removal of lamp stand

Promise:

• access to the Tree of Life

Smyrna (Rev. 2:8-11)

     Identification of Christ--The First and the Last, was dead and now alive.

     Commendation:

• enduring
• suffering and poverty

     Complaint:  none

     Correction:  none

     Judgment:  none

     Promise:

• given Crown of Life

 

Pergamos (Rev. 2:12-17)

     Identification of Christ--He that has a sharp sword with two edges.

     Commendation:

• faithfulness to Christ even in the face of martyrdom

     Complaint:

• tolerated immorality and heresies 

     Correction:

• repent

    Judgement:

• the sword of Christ's mouth

    Promise:

• hidden manna
• a white stone
• a new name

Thyatira (Rev. 2:18-29)

     Identification of Christ--The Son of God, with eyes like flame and feet of fine brass.

Commendation:

• love
• service
• faith
• patience 

     Complaint:

• tolerance of Jezebel and her wickedness 

      Correction: 

• repent 

     Judgement:

• casting of Jezebel's consorts into the Great Tribulation and killing her children.

     Promise:

• rule over nations
• possession of the Morning Star

 

Sardis (Rev. 3:1-13)

     Identification of Christ: He that has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars.

     

     Commendation:

• few who have remained faithful

     Complaint:

• deadness despite reputation for life

     Correction:

• repent
• strengthen what remains

     Judgment:

• approach of Christ, Himself

     Promise:

• clothed in white garments
• permanent listing in the Book of Life
• confession of name, before the Father

Philadelphia (Rev. 3:7-13)  

     Identification of Christ--He is holy, true, has the key of David.  Who opens no man shut and shut no man open.

     Commendation:

• faithfulness

     Complaint:  none

     Correction:  none

     Judgement:  none

     Promise:

• an open door
• deliverance from Great Tribulation
• permanent place in the temple of God
• a new name

 

Laodicea (Rev. 3:14-22)

     Identification of Christ--The Amen, Faithful and True Witness, Beginning of the Creation of God.

  

     Commendation:  none

     Complaint:

• indifference 
• over estimation of status before God

    Correction:

• repent
• seek genuine spiritual riches

     Judgement:

• expulsion from the mouth of the Lord

     Promise:

• sharing Christ's throne
