We are walking in today:  Revelation, Nothing Is Impossible For God!!

Luke 1:34-37
34) Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?  35) And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God. 36) And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren. 37) For with God nothing shall be impossible.  We see here that nothing is impossible for God!  Holy Spirit have Your way on this line!  We are looking for a supernatural move this morning!  We lift up Rev. Duncan to You, Lord, speak through her.  We know that it is already done and finished.  You have given us the best gift, Revelation of Jesus Christ!  Are you ready for the word of God!

Paganism Run a Muck
Pergamos  Revelation 2:12-17.  The composite: each letter to the churches is a composite picture of the church. That means that there is something that is applicable to all churches in all ages in each message, to each individual church.  You can get a message for yourself and your church personally.  Pergamos--Excessive Religion/Paganism.  Jesus’ letter to the church at Pergamos, Revelation 2:12 a) The character of the city of Pergamos. And to the angel of the church in Pergamos write.  Pergamos was the political capital of the Roman Province of Asia Minor.  When John wrote, Pergamos had been the capital city of the region for more than three hundred years. The city was a noted center for culture and education, having one of the great libraries of the ancient world, with more than 200,000 volumes.  Pergamos was also an extremely religious city.  It had temples to the Greek and Roman gods Dionysus, Athena, Demeter, and Zeus.  It also had three temples dedicated to the worship of the Roman Emperor (Caesar had three temples built to worship him replicating the symbolism of the trinity).  Approximately 50 years before Smyrna won the honor of building the first temple to Tiberius, the city of Pergamos won the right to build the first temple to worship Caesar Augustus, (see Luke 2:1-7) in the Roman province of Asia. Pergamos was especially known as a center for the worship of the deity known as Asclepios.  Represented by a serpent, Asclepios was the god of healing and knowledge.  There was a medical school at his temple in Pergamos.  Because of the famous temple to the Roman god of healing, sick and diseased people from all over the Roman Empire flocked to Pergamos for relief.  “Sufferers were allowed to spend the night in the darkness of the temple.  In the temple there were tame snakes.  In the night the sufferer might be touched by one of these tame and harmless snakes as it glided over the ground on which he lay.  The touch of the snake was held to be the touch of the god himself, and the touch was held to bring health and healing.” (Barclay)  Revelation 2:12 b) Jesus describes Himself to the church at Pergamos.  These things says He who has the sharp two-edged sword.  He who has the sharp two-edged sword, in Revelation 1:16, John observed of Jesus out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword.  Now, Jesus “shows” this two-edged sword to the Christians in Pergamos.  The description of the sword in Revelation 1:18 helps us to associate it with the mouth of Jesus.  Jesus will confront this church with His word, and they will feel the sharp edges.  The sharp two-edged sword, reminds us of the passage in Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Jesus will use this sharp two-edged sword to make some separation among the Christians in Pergamos.  Revelation 2:13, What Jesus knows about the church at Pergamos:  And you hold fast to My name: Despite the fact they live in such a difficult city, the Christians of Pergamos hold fast to their faith in Jesus (hold fast to My name . . . did not deny My faith).  Did not deny My faith: Jesus praises the Christians of Pergamos because they did not deny His faith. It is always important to make sure that the faith we hold on to is the faith that belongs to Jesus.  Antipas was My faithful martyr, who was killed among you.  One specific man among the Christians of Pergamos received a precious title (faithful martyr).  This same title is held by Jesus also (Revelation 1:5).  Antipas was a man who followed Jesus, who was like Jesus.  Antipas is one of the great anonymous heroes of the Bible.  History tells us nothing about him except for here. “It is much no ecclesiastical history makes mention of this martyr Antipas, which argues him to have been a person but of obscure note in the world (the replica of being in the world yet not of the world); but Christ seeth and taketh notice of those little ones who belong to Him, though the world overlooks them.” (Poole)  Antipas lived where Satan’s throne was.  Yet he stood against the attacks and the evil around him.  He fulfilled the meaning of his name, because Antipas means “Against All.”  Martyr is the ancient Greek word, martus. “Martus" is a most interesting and suggestive word.  In classical Greek martus never means a martyr in our sense of the term.  It always means a witness.  A martus was one who said: ‘This is true, and I know it.’  It is not until New Testament times that martus ever means martyr.” (Barclay)  Revelation 2:14-15 What Jesus has against the Christians in Pergamos.  But I have a few things against you, because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality. Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which thing I hate.  I have a few things against you: the Christians in Pergamos were rightly praised for holding fast to the name of Jesus, and keeping His faith.  At the same time, their difficult environment did not excuse the few things Jesus had against them.  You have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam.  What is the doctrine of Balaam?  Balaam was a prototype of all corrupt teachers.  According to Numbers 22-24, 31, Balaam combined the sins of immorality and idolatry to please Balak, the king of Moab, because he could not curse Israel directly.  When Balaam counseled Balak, he taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel.  The stumbling block was connected with idolatry (to eat things sacrificed to idols) and sexual immorality.  If the church in Pergamos has those who hold the doctrine of Balaam, it shows they have tendencies towards both idolatry and immorality.  Remember the promise from Jesus, "To him who overcomes: The one who overcomes this spirit of accommodation to false teaching and living will receive hidden manna."(Revelation 2:17)  This is God’s perfect provision, the true bread from heaven (John 6:41).  The teaching on the character of Pergamos will end here for today.  I love you, God Bless.  Rev. Hallelujah God!  We serve a God that is always with us!  We are the church, fiveamprayer!  He is coming back for a church without spot or blemish, coming back for His people.  We can put all of our trust in Him in spite of how it appears to our natural eyes.  No matter what we are facing, in spite of what is going on in our finances and marriages, we continue to stand on His unchanging word and power.  It is Jesus who does the dividing, with His word--the two edged sword.  Hold on to the word of God!  This is the reason for the season--Jesus the Christ!  Look at the scripture, when Mary accepted what the angel said--with God, nothing shall be impossible!  Hold on to this one!!  In this time of revelation of Jesus--hold on to your faith!  There is nothing impossible for God!  We are to walk by faith and not by sight!  With a job or without a job.  It is He that supplies all of our needs according to His riches in glory!  It is the Lord, that goes before us.  Nothing shall be impossible!  The Lord is our Shepherd, we shall not want!  Walk through this study of Revelation, knowing that nothing is impossible for our God!  Hold on to His word.  He will not fail to perform every promise!!  Isaiah 55:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.  Fiveamprayer, be transformed by the renewing of your mind!!  Be in His word daily!!  Daily the world and the devil's devices try to get you off track, get back on track and stay on track by reading and meditating on His holy word!  Move as God would have you to move.  Hold on to this revelation, in this time and season.  Hosea 4:6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.  Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.  Fiveamprayer, keep trusting in God--He will deliver on all of His promises!  God is gonna bless you so, that it just won't make sense!!  Don't waiver nor give up or turn around!!  It is the the Lord who makes a way out of no way!  Even when you are down to your last, God shows up, with His amazing grace!  This world would have us to think that there isn't a way.  The devil is a liar!!  Our God makes a way, all the time, every time!  Isaiah 43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.  Who can make rivers in the desert?!  So in those dry, wastelands, in the wilderness--God can give us rivers of water!?  2 Kings 3:17 For thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye, and your cattle, and your beasts.  It looks like, our faith and trust is never misplaced when we place it in Almighty God!  There is nothing impossible for Him!!  Hallelujah!  Praise Him!  Glory!  So the question becomes, fiveamprayer, what are you trusting in?  The seemingly impossible?  Isaiah 59:19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.  Are you standing on the lifted up standard?  We don't have to fear when we are on the Lord's side!!  2 Kings 6:16-17 16) And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. 17) And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.  No fear, doubt or wavering--nothing is too hard for God!  Nothing is impossible for God!  No matter what you are facing!  Hallelujah!  Thank You God for giving us this scripture this morning--Luke 1:37.  2011 has been a year of hell, for so many of us--pressed on every side.  We are still standing on Your word.  We know that nothing is impossible for our God!  We will continue on until the end!  We are going all of the way!  There is nothing too hard for God or impossible!  Jesus has already overcome the word and we are covered in His blood, that power to overcome is from Him.  That is where we pull from to overcome these tricks of the world!  Take this one and walk it out in your spirit!!  Psalm 23:4-6 4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5) Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6) Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.  Nothing is impossible for God!  We lift up prayer requests, those known and unknown.  For those looking for healing in their body or reconciliation in marriage--there is nothing impossible for God!  Trust and believe in the Most High God!  Forgive us Lord, for looking elsewhere for answers, answers that were and always are insufficient and inferior to resolve the issue.  We are no longer walking as the world does, seeking things outside of Your presence and knowledge.  Thank You Lord for forgiving us and teaching us the good and right way!  There is nothing too hard for You!  Teaching and restoring such a wayward people!  Thank You for Your brand new mercies, daily and grace!  Thank You for casting our sins into the sea where it is remembered no more!  Teach us to forgive like You that we are forgiven and our prayers not hindered.

We seal this prayer in His precious blood: 1 Chronicles 4:10
And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast, and that thine hand might be with me, and that thou wouldest keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.
