30 Day Tongue Fast--The Flattering Tongue

Jude 1

We are walking in today:  30 Day Tongue Fast--The Flattering Tongue
Teaching from the book--30 Days to Taming Your Tongue, by Deborah Smith Pegues.

Witness flattery throughout the Bible:   H2506 cheleq spelled chet, lamed, qof--smoothness, seductiveness, flattery or the root h2505 to be smooth,
slippery, deceitful

Daniel 11:32 And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.

Torah:
Prophets:
Writings: Job 17:5; Proverbs 6:24, 7:21

Romans 16:18 People like that aren’t serving the Lord. They are serving their own feelings. They deceive the hearts of innocent people with smooth talk and flattery.

Jude 1:16-17 16 These people are grumblers and complainers, they follow their evil passions, their mouths speak grandiosities, and they flatter others to gain advantage. 17 But you, dear friends, keep in mind the words spoken in advance by the emissaries of our Lord Yeshua the Messiah. 18 They told you, “During the acharit-hayamim there will be scoffers following their own godless passions.” 19 These are the people who cause divisions. They are controlled by their impulses because they don’t have the Spirit.

In moving forward with 30 days of taming our tongue, we embark on the explanation of the flattering tongue. The tongue that uses half truths and  compliments to gain favor from an individual. You know the typical “brown noser”. Funny how you can watch individuals with this flattering tongue worm their way into and out of anything. Especially when they can seek a weak spot  or character flaw or inefficiency in the person a mile away. Flatterers can spot someone damaged like owls at night for their prey.

The Most High never promotes the Godly based on flattery. The promotion comes from favor and His eternal plans to prosper our comings and goings. Just as David had favor with Samuel and Saul. Ruth had favor with Naomi and Boaz. Esther had favor with the King,  Joseph with Potiphar and Pharaoh. Yet he cuts off the flattering lips and causes truth to prevail.

Psalm 12:3
3 They all tell lies to each other, Flattering with their lips, but speaking from divided hearts.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION:

Job 32:21-22
“I will show partiality to no one, nor will I flatter any man; for if I were skilled in flattery, my Maker would soon take me away”.
