30 Days Tongue Fast--The Hasty Tongue, Day 4

Proverbs 29

We are walking in today: 30 Days Tongue Fast--The Hasty Tongue, Day 4

Teaching from the book, 30 Days To Taming Your Tongue by Deborah Smith Pegues

Witness hasty throughout the Bible:  H7116 qatser spelled qof, tsadei, resh--short, impatient, in size, number, life, strength, etc

Proverbs 29:20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

Torah
Prophets:  Isaiah 37:27
Writings: 2  Kings 19:26; Job 14:1; Proverbs 14:17, 14:29

Ecclesiastes 5:2 Do not be quick to speak with your mouth, nor let your heart be hasty to utter a word before God. For God is in heaven, and you are on the earth; therefore may your words be few.

Proverbs 29:20
Do you see someone too anxious to speak? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

I never met a wise person that talked a lot. Or a wise person that was quick to speak. Have you ever felt like you were talking to someone and the conversation is more like a race to get your words out? You can’t even finish your sentence well enough to be understood for what you meant. Without being interrupted and 9 times out of 10 you’re misunderstood completely. As I notice the teaching styles of great mentors in my life starting with Yeshiah. He never responded to emotions but to the need and sticks to that. His response to the wiles of the Sadducees and Pharisees was never what they came to hear but what He had to teach.
Other mentors, I have had patterned the similar characteristics of knowledge, wisdom and understanding. They were never quick to speak or interrupt with rudeness, but slow and thorough with complete resolution and insight.

Matthew 16:1-4 cjb
16 Then some P’rushim and Tz’dukim came to trap Yeshua by asking him to show them a miraculous sign from Heaven. 2 But his response was, “When it is evening, you say, ‘Fair weather ahead,’ because the sky is red; 3 and in the morning you say, ‘Storm today!’ because the sky is red and overcast. You know how to read the appearance of the sky, but you can’t read the signs of the times! 4 A wicked and adulterous generation is asking for a sign? It will certainly not be given a sign — except the sign of Yonah!” With that, he left them and went off.

Offending in Haste

No matter how holy we are, we will eventually offend somebody because of hasty speech. We must depend upon the Holy Spirit to direct our speech in a way that does not tap into their pain, distress, or other negative experiences.

James 3:2 KJV
“For in many things we offend all. If any man offends not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body”.

Responding in Haste

Slow down and listen--take your time to respond. Listening to the person and instructions from the Ruach HaKodesh will lead and guide you into all truths. Trust the process.
Proverbs 18:13 “He who answers before listening—that is his folly and his shame”.

Committing in Haste

God does not want us to be flaky. He expects us to keep our promises. “Stop, think, and pray before you speak.” Have you ever wondered why God gave us two ears and one mouth? Perhaps we are to spend twice as much time listening than talking. A good pause would serve us well in the long run. Time and words are two things that, once gone, can never be recovered. We must take the time to weigh our words before we release them.

Ecclesistes 5:2 NKJV “Do not be rash with your mouth, and let not your heart utter anything
hastily before God”.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I am swift to hear and slow to speak. The Lord
has set a guard over my mouth and He keeps watch over the door of my
lips.Shema Selah, let us pause and consider our words let not a hasty word exit our mouths!! Facebook LIVE video
