This chapter gives more detail to the Levitical priesthood on the handling of blood. The directions are specific so that the people would not partake in sacrifices to anyone but Yahweh. There was a practice of sacrificing to goat-demons that was to be left behind in Egypt. It was by the hand of the Great I AM that they were delivered out and all the worship is for Him. The blood was given for the people's atonement on the altar for their souls. This same blood was used in the Lord's Passover when the people placed the blood on the doorposts, caused the death angel to passover them. The people are told specifically to drain the blood from the clean animal that is being slaughtered and cover the blood with dirt. The priests were the ones who were to sacrifice the animal and were to get a share of the meat as their portion. There are in some cases the animals are slaughtered in the field and then brought to the priest for offerings with the blood. The decree of not eating the blood in the meat was for all who dwelled with the children of Israel that was not to be done among them. It would cause that person to be cut off. This has been stated as isolation or even death. The removal of all blood is difficult but the people were to seek to drain most of it out and then have the meat cooked thoroughly. While the eating of an animal that died without being slaughtered (natural causes or torn by other animals) may result in being cut off. If the person washes themselves and their clothing they will be cleansed of guilt at sunset but if they do not wash their bodies and clothes they bear their guilt. This is seen as harsh by some, yet we cannot question the wisdom of our Creator. He is Yahweh and His word does not change. All the directions that He has given us is for our benefit, set down tradition and ask for the ancient paths! Click here for more on this teaching.
