Fear
Strong's # H3374 (Yirah) awesome, extremely, fearing, reverence
fear ˈfir/ noun
1. an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain, or a threat.
"drivers are threatening to quit their jobs in fear after a cabby's murder"
synonyms: terror, fright, fearfulness, horror, alarm, panic, agitation, trepidation, dread, consternation, dismay, distress
verb
1. be afraid of (someone or something) as likely to be dangerous, painful, or threatening.
"he said he didn't care about life so why should he fear death?"
The fear of the Lord, was never verbally explained to me. While growing up all I saw was folks acting spooky all up in the church. Walking around with the "church finger," (like don't nobody see you point your finger in the air out of nowhere where and walk out). Which seemed to serve to draw attention, getting up and walking out with your finger pointed like, don't look at me I'm leaving. Or closing your eyes and bowing your head to pray. Are we not to look at Yahweh while praying? Or He is not to see us while we pray to Him? It is funny how a lot of things done in religion are largely based off of traditions. Yes, the traditions of men, passed down through the generations with our own spin on what religion is. Which comes to be repeated through generations just because that's how things are to be done. Giving no thought to question at least find out why.
We are going to break up the misunderstanding. Fiveamprayer there are benefits to fearing Lord, Yahweh and what's the scripture say about fearing Yahweh?
Psalms 111: 10
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; a good understanding has all they that do His commandments. His praise endureth for ever! - CJB
Proverbs 1:7
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. - CJB
Proverbs 15:33
The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility. - CJB
Then there's the reverence, glory and magnificence from basking in His Power. As His shows us His ever-growing love. This is the proper response to a holy, just and pure God, Yahweh! The utter awe, respect and honor to the one and only Yahweh. Using the Hebrew word yirah, this description of our perception of Yahweh changes! This banishes the image of a psychopath ready to bring destruction on you for not being on time to open erev Shabbat meal. This is fearing in awe and reverence as you would respect an elder or connection with someone that is of importance. Not to liken the glory of our Creator to man, this is just as a small example of the reverence and fear for Yahweh.
Hebraically there are ways shown in the original words of the scripture that brings clarity to clever words or the turn of a phrase. Often misquoted or misunderstood, this is due to the many translations that drew the meaning further away from the original context. Which in Hebrew for instance, is used three ways:
1. Fear of unpleasant consequences or punishment. The normal fear of spiders, clowns or snakes whatever that would strike a person with paralysis just on sight
2. The anxiety of breaking our Yahweh's laws. People doing everything right in fear of Yahweh ready to strike thee if you stop doing what's right at once. Everything is done in fear of fire and brimstone, curses and death and decay. All the while saying...we love you Lord and if we don't meet up to you in our eyes...
3. The highest form of fear is profound reverence for life that comes from rightly seeing. This is the
awed level that perceives Yahweh in everything and all things. His majesty enter twined in all things. Thus causing a love so deeply connected to Yahweh and all that is His. To where the adoration of His Being becomes a perception of fear in reverence to him and all things of Him. Recognizing all that is not of Him.
This brings one a whole new outlook on the fear of Yahweh and also on our perception of how we view one another. If I looked at my brother with awe and reverence with the same love that I have in adoration and admiration for Yahweh, I would be seeing Him in all things! This should be the same way we treat each other, as we walk together in His kingdom. Which this is all found by rightly dividing the word of instructions given to the Talmidim to teach--the truth from the untruth! To hear this again click here.
