The 7 Kinds Of Proteges
Matthew 14
We are walking in today: The 7 Kinds Of Proteges
Teaching from the book: Principles of the Protégé, Discover The Pathway To Success, by Dr. Francisco I. Victa III
Witness to agree throughout the Bible: H3259 ya`ad to fix, appoint, assemble, meet, set, betroth
Amos 3:4; Matthew 18:19
Matthew 14:17
“All we have with us,” they said, “is five loaves of bread and two fish.” - CJB
Mentors when acquiring, protégées throughout time, will notice several characteristics in their protege:
1. The Problem Protégé
Instead of helping to solve problems. This protégé creates issues. Always has mess going on in the community. Struggles to finish assignments. Bringing problems to the mentor instead of seeking to help them.Creating strife among staff and teammates.Grieving the heart of the mentor by refusing to heed instructions and take orders. Focusing on only problems.
2. The Paranoid Protégé
Cares more about one's own reputation than the mentor. Also paranoid of what others think of them. Never really too close to the mentor, due to the opinions of others. When slander or accusations arise against the mentor. This paranoid protege cowards from intervention--neutral in everything and easily intimidated due to negative experiences growing up with family members.
Matthew 10:37
Whoever loves his father or mother more than he loves me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than he loves me is not worthy of me. - CJB
3. The Parasite Protégé
Coveting that which the mentor has gained in pain. But unwilling to walk in the truth that the mentor has practiced. Considered the most dangerous form of protege. Ever wanting to receive but never giving-full of bitterness and jealousy that is harbored in the depths of their souls. It is this selfishness and hate to contribute, never interested in the law of two. Has a mantra of selfish thoughts--Just selfish, look at me. I'm the star. These people are a waste the mentor’s time.
Are more interested in status than serving. Rarely gives. Despises other protégés whom the mentor favors. Doesn’t value the mentor’s time or money. They are the first to turn on the mentor in the midst of criticisms and misunderstanding
4. The Parakeet Protégé
Imitating a mentor can be a sign of humility and wisdom. To want to emulate a mentor is the goal, yet the carbon copy of a mentors personality is a problem. The protege is to copy the actions, not the personality. Yahweh created us individually unique for His plan. There will never be nor has there been anyone like you.
5. Passive Protégé
The most frustrating form of protege. Standoffish but prefers to be around the mentor. Never fully engaging but just observing the leaders every move. Close enough to know, yet far enough not to be known. Straddling the fence between acquaintances and armor bearer.
6. The Potential Protégé
Rarely does what is wrong or right. Packed with potential full of talents and highly educated. Yet to get them to commit is a problem.
7. Powerful, Productive, Pursuing Protégé
Balancing our focus on creating great protegees, instead of looking for great mentors period without proper comprehension on various types of protegees. Now we understand the balance and the law of two, how important mentors-protegees relationship ties in the kingdom. Also the principal of the protege teaches us what protégées are to aspire to.
We have unfortunately have spent much time--even too much on the mentor's characteristics and not enough time on that of a great protege. That in time with the leading of the Holy Spirit we would later look for those traits ourselves for the protege that we would mentor. What a fitting study to show us those who we walk with. We are still looking in the mirror, cleaning and preparing for passover. We must also know who we are walking with--how can two walk together unless they be agreed?
