Revelation 2
We are walking in today: Shut The Door On Toleration!!! It's Time To Confront!!
Witness tolerate throughout the Bible: G4909 syneudokeō to consent, agree to; to applaud , allow ,pretend to have pleasure in
Psalm 101:4; Esther 3:8; Revelation 2:20
Revelation 2:2-3
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou
canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say
they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
Tolerating evil in our lives tends to leave a rottenness eating away in
our souls. Ever reminding us of the sickening presences of it. You ever
had a conversation with someone that leaves you drained after every
encounter? Or a person that blatantly vex at your soul edging to repay?
Yet we tolerate theses situations as if under some kind of a hold. Not
knowing the author and finisher of our faith always has a plan. His
words stand true and perfect. Trying the very soul unto perfection.
Hebrews 4:12-13
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any
twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and
spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts
and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature
that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened
unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
From the very
beginning in the Israelite journey, Yahweh commanded them to
destroy all the Canaanites, when they enter their promised land, yet they
failed to do so. Throughout history, these foreign people were a stumbling block to them. As an example, Saul not killing
all the Amalekites plagued Israel later as we see in the book of Esther--Haman, the Amalekite shows up to attack Israel. As well as Israel's continuous love of following
other gods and mixing pagan worship with Yahweh's teachings.
These same illustrations of toleration passed on to the early church, as
time progressed as well. Hence the hate of the practices of the Nicolaitans mentioned in the book of Revelation. Yahweh warned against tolerating such
practices. John commends them for the hate of this type of practice.
Revelation 2:6
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
Why?
A mysterious group of wicked religious imposters was the “Nicolaitans.” Who were they? What do they teach? Do they still exist today? Why should they even concern you? In the warnings to the seven churches of Revelation, we are told to beware of them. Why are they dangerous and how would you recognize them, today? The word “Nicolaitans,” in Greek, means “followers of Nicolas.” The name “Nicolas” means “victor of the people.”
Referring to The Nicolaitans: “They seem to have held that it was
lawful to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit the immoral
excesses of the heathen, in opposition to the decree of the Church
rendered in Acts 15:20, 29. Mingling themselves in the orgies of
idolatrous feasts, they brought the impurities of those feasts into the
meetings of the Christian church. And all this was done, it must be
remembered, not simply as an indulgence of appetite, but as a part of a system, supported by a “doctrine,” accompanied by the boasts of a
prophetic illumination” .
The Nicolaitans, therefore, were the
early Christian-pagan syncretists, the false teachers that crept into
the church, who disguised themselves as followers of Christ – who
professed to be His ministers and servants – but who led the people
astray.
These are the ‘Nicolaitans.” Halley’s Bible Handbook
tells us of them, “Sexual vice was actually a part of heathen worship,
and recognized as a proper thing in heathen festivals. Priestesses of
Diana and kindred deities were public prostitutes. The thing had been a
troublesome question for Gentile churches from the start. . . Meantime
great multitudes of heathen had become Christians, and had carried some
of their old ideas into their new religion. Naturally there were all
sorts of attempts to harmonize these heathen practices with the
Christian religion. Many professing Christian teachers, claiming
inspiration from God, were advocating the right to free participation in
heathen immoralities. In Ephesus, the Christian pastors, as a body,
excluded such teachers. But in Pergamum and Thyatira, while we are not
to think that the main body of pastors held such teachings, yet they
tolerated within their ranks those who did”.
The Nicolaitans seduced
God’s people to “eat things sacrificed to idols” – that is, participate
in heathen, pagan festivals, including sexual immorality–in other
words, to commit spiritual fornication and adultery – which is IDOLATRY!
This convergence of Christianity with pagan beliefs and practices was
sheer APOSTASY in the eyes of God!
Ancient
Pergamos was a city where the worship of Zeus and Asclepios were
endemic, whose symbol was a serpent entwined around a rod or staff. It
was a city where paganism and politics were closely entwined and allied.
Nicolaitan pressures were very strong in this city where pressures to
“compromise” would have been very heavy.
The same toleration of
Moses and all the leaders in Exodus seduced by the Moabites and Balaam--in that instance, toleration killed 24,000 Hebrews.
So we see the example of
toleration and the enormous damage this may cause in our lives and
future generations. Understanding that when Yahweh, who is
sovereign and knows all things. He already knew what would happen if His commands to
kill a thing kill it are not followed. Having a huge effect on us and our future generations. Someone has to
kill the giants that have cursed the land, causing plagues to ravage our lives and families. We have the keys of David to shut the door on toleration! Realizing
that the door is shut for us and our seed. Through an applying of the
principles of Yahweh's teachings and instructions.
Principle:
Deut. 20:10-18
10 When thou comest nigh unto a city to fight against it, then proclaim peace unto it.
11 And it shall be, if it make thee answer of peace, and open unto
thee, then it shall be, that all the people that is found therein shall
be tributaries unto thee, and they shall serve thee.
12 And if it will make no peace with thee, but will make war against thee, then thou shalt besiege it:
13 And when the LORD thy God hath delivered it into thine hands, thou
shalt smite every male thereof with the edge of the sword:
14
But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in
the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and
thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath
given thee. note
15 Thus shalt thou do unto all the cities which are very far off from thee, which are not of the cities of these nations.
16 But of the cities of these people, which the LORD thy God doth
give thee for an inheritance, thou shalt save alive nothing that
breatheth:
17 But thou shalt utterly destroy them; namely, the
Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the
Hivites, and the Jebusites; as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee:
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which
they have done unto their gods; so should ye sin against the LORD your
God.
