Isaiah 2:2; Acts 2:17
Daniel 9:24-27 “Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and for your holy city for putting an end to the transgression, for making an end of sin, for forgiving iniquity, for bringing in everlasting justice, for setting the seal on vision and prophet, and for anointing the Especially Holy Place. Know, therefore, and discern that seven weeks [of years] will elapse between the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Yerushalayim until an anointed prince comes. It will remain built for sixty-two weeks [of years], with open spaces and moats; but these will be troubled times. Then, after the sixty-two weeks, Mashiach will be cut off and have nothing. The people of a prince yet to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary, but his end will come with a flood, and desolations are decreed until the war is over. He will make a strong covenant with leaders for one week [of years]. For half of the week he will put a stop to the sacrifice and the grain offering. On the wing of detestable things the desolator will come and continue until the already decreed destruction is poured out on the desolator.” - CJB
Daniel is one of my favorite prophets because of his stubbornness to servitude unto Yahweh. In spite of his circumstances. IIt has always captivated me for the wisdom and favor on his life, his unwavering love for Yahweh caused him favor after favor under the captivity of foreign kings. His obedience in Yahweh's laws. This was due to his knowledge of the Torah, the laws of Yahweh given to Moses. For the duel nature of the blessings and curses mentioned in Deuteronomy 28. All throughout the book of Daniel you see him faithfully and tenaciously observe the appointed times of prayer--morning, afternoon and evening prayer 9am, 12pm and 3pm and observing the dietary laws.
Daniel 1:8 But Dani’el resolved that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or the wine he drank, so he asked the chief officer to be excused from defiling himself. - CJB
Faithfulness and obedience which brings the blessings, as we Hebrews speak for a rule of thumb. Yet under scrutiny, oppression and scorn. We see a great example of our daily walk with Yahweh, for even amongst revelation to Daniel by Gabriel. The message from Yahweh included the note to Daniel was greatly loved.
As seen in Daniel 9, he apparently had been studying Jeremiah 29 and looking to the end of this proclamation that Israel had to continue in bondage. Due to their "once again... rebellion towards Yahweh's Kingdom." In verses 11-14, his earnest prayers pleading in sackcloth and ashes [coarse black cloth made of goat's hair and burnt ashes from wood] as a sign of repentance and mourning. For the release of the captivity and scorn of Israel, by the very nation Israel tried to emulate. Funny how the very thing outside of Yahweh's will we try to pursue--becomes our masters of mockery and shame.
Yet in the middle of Daniel's prayer, Gabriel comes with the message from Yahweh. Saying that Daniel's prayers where answered when he first started. Yet Gabriel had to give the understanding of such a profoundly important interpretation--that it took a messenger from heaven to convey and give understanding of the prophecy Daniel had been earnestly studying.
Daniel 9:23 At the beginning of your prayers, an answer was given; and I have come to say what it is; because you are greatly loved. Therefore look into this answer, and understand the vision. -CJB
The message of a 70 week proclamation to fulfill six prophecies:
1. Putting an end to transgression.
Which was happening as they spoke, the reason for Daniel's prayer.
2. Making a end of sin (future prophecy)
3. For forgiving iniquity.
Sins inherited from forefathers (wow, paying for the sins of our forefathers)

Numbers 14:18 ‘Adonai is slow to anger, rich in grace, forgiving offenses and crimes; yet not exonerating the guilty, but causing the negative effects of the parents’ offenses to be experienced by their children and even by the third and fourth generations.’ -CJB
Exodus 20:5 You are not to bow down to them or serve them; for I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, -CJB
4. Bringing in everlasting justice.
A new heaven and new earth.
Isaiah 65:17 “For, look! I create new heavensand a new earth;past things will not be remembered, they will no more come to mind. - CJB
Revelation 21:1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had passed away, and the sea was no longer there. - CJB
5. Setting the seal on visions and prophets. A seal signifies a royal decree or authorization i.e. signed sealed and delivered (Gabriel)
6. Anointing the special holy place
Now to the meat of Gabriel's message to Daniel broken down in the scriptures. Daniel is a part of the captives spoken of by the prophet Jeremiah:
Jeremiah 25:12-14 12 But when the seventy years are over, I will punish the king of Bavel and that nation for their sin,’ says Adonai, ‘and I will turn the land of the Kasdim into everlasting ruins. 13 I will inflict on that land all my words that I have decreed against it, everything written in this book, in which Yirmeyahu has prophesied against all the nations. 14 For they too will become slaves to many nations and to powerful kings; I will pay them back according to their deeds and the work of their own hands.’
Jeremiah 29:10-14 10 “For here is what Adonai says: ‘After Bavel’s seventy years are over, I will remember you and fulfill my good promise to you by bringing you back to this place. 11 For I know what plans I have in mind for you,’ says Adonai,‘plans for well-being, not for bad things; so that you can have hope and a future. 12 When you call to me and pray to me, I will listen to you. 13 When you seek me, you will find me, provided you seek for me wholeheartedly; 14 and I will let you find me,’ says Adonai. ‘Then I will reverse your exile. I will gather you from all the nations and places where I have driven you,’ says Adonai, ‘and bring you back to the place from which I exiled you.’
Israel's rebellion caused their protection to be lifted, they enter into slavery for serving the foreign nations gods. The time of the sentence, 70 years of bondage. That is near a whole generation, a bloodline wiped out or too old to rebel huh?
Yet the promise was fulfilled as we continue to read the book of Daniel. Still to have the time of Yeshua's sacrifice come into to prophecy. Cleansing of the sins of past and present generations. The destruction of the physical temple and the death of Yeshua. His promised return as king and heaven here on earth.
These numerical purposes of 70 "seven" can be explained in terms by Nehemiah's prophecy
Nehemiah 2:2-9 2 The king asked, “Why do you look so sad? You’re not sick, so this must be some deep inner grief.” At this, I became very fearful, 3 as I said to the king, “May the king live forever! Why shouldn’t I look sad, when the city, the place where my ancestors’ tombs are, lies in ruins; and its gates are completely burned up?” 4 The king asked me, “What is it that you want?” I prayed to the God of heaven, 5 then said to the king, “If it pleases the king, if your servant has won your favor, send me to Y’hudah, to the city of my ancestors’ tombs, so that I can rebuild it.” 6 With the queen sitting next to him, the king asked me, “How long is your trip going to take? When will you return?” So it pleased the king to send me, and I gave him a time. 7 I then said to the king, “If it pleases the king, have letters given to me for the governors of the territory beyond the [Euphrates] River, so that they will let me pass through until I reach Y’hudah; 8 and also a letter for Asaf the supervisor of the royal forests, so that he will give me timber to make beams for the gates of the fortress belonging to the house, for the city wall and for the house I will be occupying.” The king gave me these, according to the good hand of my God on me. 9 I went to the governors of the territory beyond the River and gave them the king’s letters. The king had sent with me an escort of army captains and cavalry. - CJB
After the first 70 week prophecy of Israel's captivity and return ending at the rule of King Cyrus. We begin to see the fulfillment of the 62 additional sevens, until the Messiah's return by the death of Christ in 30 A.D. then Yahweh will wrap up history, verses 26-27.
Daniel 9:26-27 26 Then, after the sixty-two weeks, Mashiach will be cut off and have nothing. The people of a prince yet to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary, but his end will come with a flood, and desolations are decreed until the war is over. 27 He will make a strong covenant with leaders for one week [of years]. For half of the week he will put a stop to the sacrifice and the grain offering. On the wing of detestable things the desolator will come and continue until the already decreed destruction is poured out on the desolator.”
Then the one will make a covenant with many, for the last "seven" and halfway into this seven the end of the sacrifices that causes desolation due to the abomination is fulfilled. To hear this teaching again click here.
