Acts 2
We are walking in today: Changing The World With The Word Of Yahweh
Teaching from the book: Teaching and Preaching from the Old Testament: A guide to the church, by Walter C. Kaiser Jr.
Acts 2:24 But God has raised him up and freed him from the suffering of death; it was impossible that death could keep its hold on him. -CJB
We will be discussing before we go into the lesson 7 growths of the church through the demonstration and power of using the word of Yahweh .
1. Acts 6:7 So the word of God continued to spread. The number of talmidim in Yerushalayim increased rapidly, and a large crowd of cohanim were becoming obedient to the faith. - CJB
2. Acts 9:31 Then the Messianic community throughout Y’hudah, the Galil and Shomron enjoyed peace and was built up. They lived in the fear of the Lord, with the counsel of the Ruach HaKodesh; and their numbers kept multiplying. - CJB
3. Acts 12:24 But the word of the Lord went on growing and being multiplied. - CJB
4. Acts 13:49 Accordingly, the congregations were strengthened in the faith and increased in number day by day. -CJB
5. Acts 16:5 Accordingly, the congregations were strengthened in the faith and increased in number day by day. -CJB
6. Acts 19:20 Thus the message about the Lord continued in a powerful way to grow in influence. -CJB
7. Acts 28:31 openly and without hindrance proclaiming the Kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Yeshua the Messiah. - CJB
Five of these scriptures connects with the growth of the preaching of the word of Yahweh. The remaining two of the shows that growth takes place, Acts 9:31,16:5. As we read the exciting events of enactments, which profoundly change the destiny of the Talmidim (disciples) of Yeshua. These who had come to gather at His appointed time, on Shavu'ot. This is the 2nd of 3 most Holy festivals--commanded to Moses by Yahweh to observe. Which is celebrated 50 days from Passover as the giving of the Torah.
We see thousands in pilgrimage to Jerusalem for this festival, witness the prophecy spoken of by:
Joel 2:28
And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: - KJV
The disciples gathered together commanded by Yeshua as He ascended, spoke of the Ruach HaKodesh falling to give them power of the kingdom of Yahweh.
Acts 2:2-4
Suddenly there came a sound from the sky like the roar of a violent wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire, which separated and came to rest on each one of them. They were all filled with the Ruach HaKodesh and began to talk in different languages, as the Spirit enabled them to speak. -CJB
The promise the fell for the effectual spreading of power came upon them was likened to tongues of fire. The Talmidim were heard speaking in foreign languages. For there were Judeans from several countries. Who journeyed to Jerusalem to observe the Shavu'ot mitzvah (commandment of Yahweh). As the Judeans observed in confusion the prophecy being fulfilled. Disbelief arose, haters of course began to scoff. Peter arose and spoke of the prophecy of Joel. As well as the life of Yeshua's purpose for his sacrifice. Nothing but the straight and unadulterated Ruach HaKodesh powered words. Thousands were converted to the belief in Yeshua. The journey or pilgrimage that started as men and women who traveled to observe a commandment from Adonai given to Moses out of Mount Sinai, reveals them being in the presence of prophecy fulfilled. Yet they still did not understand the scriptures, but were being obedient year after year. To the climax of power poured out for the unification and start of community practices. People began to sell their belongings, cook, ate, worked, studied and worshipped all on one accord. Talmidim were added daily. The Word of Yahweh flourished as well as the growth of Talmidim.
So is this promise prevalent now? Why do we have so many denominations of Christianity and versions of the belief in the faith? That are supposed to be of Yahweh. Even unto the calling of His name.
It all boils down to the word interpreted, one believes in clean and unclean practices from the old ways or Torah. While another says "it's the 21st century those rituals and laws do not apply to the modern day Christian for followers of Christ.' As a keynote thousands ritualistically journeyed for generations to generations in observing of Shavu'ot. The observance of the giving of the Torah, but failed to understand the outpouring of the Ruach HaKodesh. Nor the significance of the death of Yeshua. Whereas Peter filled with the Ruach HaKodesh opened the multitude eyes through the power of the spirit and scriptures. Let us not forget the previous Peter, who before being filled with the scriptures and the Holy Spirit--also spoke frivolously and acted as well. Once before mentioned in the scriptures answered Yeshua's question. Who do men say that I am?
Matthew 16:15; Mark 16:15; Luke 9:20
Bottom line, the power of the word in Scripture must be study. No self help books on how to live right seminars--can ever compare to the careful study of the Scriptures! Filled by the leading and guidance of the promise Ruach HaKodesh. The very same reason today we do not see all the signs, wonders and folks converting--to walk away as we have read in Acts chapter 2. No prayer and no power, crying out to be endowed with the power of the Ruach HaKodesh. As promised that will come on all who believe and practice as instructed. The words that Yeshua and the disciples study relentlessly in the Old Testament the Tanakh. Have mercy Adonai! How we have deceived ourselves in ignorance and pride! Clearly seen in the forming of our own religions, claiming the doctrines of men of the word of Yahweh. Without the careful pursuit and study Your words or speaking Your words. It is His word that is full of teachings and instruction on how to live as the body and Acts 2. We must return to our Torah in fasting and prayer! Searching out the volume of the Torah that we return to Yahweh. Which Yeshua spoken about throughout His teachings.
Hebrew 10:7-10
Then I said, ‘Look! In the scroll of the book it is written about me. I have come to do your will.’” In saying first, “You neither willed nor were pleased with animal sacrifices, meal offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings,” things which are offered in accordance with the Torah; and then, “Look, I have come to do your will”; he takes away the first system in order to set up the second. It is in connection with this will that we have been separated for God and made holy, once and for all, through the offering of Yeshua the Messiah’s body. -CJB
As we look at the society we live in, focused on self alone. Let us not forget the Hebrews from every part of Judea from Rome to Jerusalem traveled as commanded. I imagine all colors came together on accord filled with power to become one. The Torah unites in the observers of the one living Yahweh. One word, one plan, one Yahweh and one people. The beauty of the Torah the instructions given from a King for his Kingdom to his people. This is not individualism but one way, not many denominations that observe different ways, but His way! The Talmidim where heard speaking in other tongues. To teach all the one way of the Torah in one accord. Elsewhere in the Torah, we read the one language of the people was confounded because their goals where to leave out Yahweh and become like Him. So the language, Hebrew, yes everyone spoke Hebrew was confounded and the one nation of the world became nations, speaking various languages.
Genesis 11:4-9
Then they said, “Come, let’s build ourselves a city with a tower that has its top reaching up into heaven, so that we can make a name for ourselves and not be scattered all over the earth.” Adonai came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. Adonai said, “Look, the people are united, they all have a single language, and see what they’re starting to do! At this rate, nothing they set out to accomplish will be impossible for them! Come, let’s go down and confuse their language, so that they won’t understand each other’s speech.” So from there Adonai scattered them all over the earth, and they stopped building the city. For this reason it is called Bavel [confusion] — because there Adonai confused the language of the whole earth, and from there Adonai scattered them all over the earth. -CJB
