Psalm 84

We are walking in today:  Our Longing For An Opportunity To Praise Yahweh In His Sanctuary

Psalms 84
How deeply loved are your dwelling-places, Adonai-Tzva’ot! My soul yearns, yes, faints with longing for the courtyards of Adonai; my heart and body cry for joy to the living God. As the sparrow finds herself a home and the swallow her nest, where she lays her young, [so my resting-place is] by your altars, Adonai-Tzva’ot, my king and my God. How happy are those who live in your house; they never cease to praise you! (Selah) How happy the man whose strength is in you, in whose heart are [pilgrim] highways. Passing through the [dry] Baka Valley, they make it a place of springs, and the early rain clothes it with blessings. They go from strength to strengthand appear before God in Tziyon. Adonai, God of armies, hear my prayer; listen, God of Ya‘akov. (Selah) God, see our shield [the king]; look at the face of your anointed. Better a day in your courtyards than a thousand [days elsewhere]. Better just standing at the door of my God’s housethan living in the tents of the wicked. For Adonai, God, is a sun and a shield; Adonai bestows favor and honor; he will not withhold anything good from those whose lives are pure. Adonai-Tzva’ot, how happy is anyone who trust in you.

Getting to the sanctuary to get your praise on to some is the most exciting highlight of the week! There can be many obstacles blocking one's worship and praise in just getting to the sanctuary. Such as a conflicting work schedule or a family members celebration, or just flat out being lazy. Let alone, once you get inside the sanctuary, many distractions may come.  This attempt at keeping you from getting your praise on, must be thwarted!  Here we see in Psalms 84, such zeal, enjoyment whole hearted pursuit and blessings in attending the sanctuary. Yes I did say attending, a big difference from observing!

One of the things that is so amazing about Psalms 84, is the very beginning before we even go into the passages. We see that the Psalm was written by the sons of Korach. The very same levitical priests that apposed Moses and Aaron's authority, and position as leader and High Priest.  Cutting to the end of the story,  a showdown commenced and the ground opened up and swallows the whole Korach family and the followers--or did they all perish?

Numbers 16

Considering the fact that Yahweh's command for cursing  to the 3rd and 4th generations, for those that hate Him. Could somebody survive and guess what?  Their response we can clearly see in this Psalm is that they loved Yahweh so much, have a life given to the service to Yahweh!! Psalms were written, temples were protected--there is  nothing like loosing some family members, due to rebellion against Yahweh.  That'll get ya right, real quick--for generations.....talk about teshuvah or repent

Exodus 20:4 You are not to make for yourselves a carved image or any kind of representation of anything in heaven above, on the earth beneath or in the water below the shoreline. You are not to bow down to them or serve them; for I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but displaying grace to the thousandth generation of those who love me and obey my mitzvot. - CJB

Find the definitions in Psalms 84--n breaking down the passages gives the clear understanding of descriptive praise.

V1. Brings us close to Yahweh

V2. Makes us feel at home with Yahweh

V3. Increases our praise and gratitude towards Yahweh

V4. This Psalms bring strength to our lives

V5. Refreshes us in times of trouble

V6. Revitalizes our strength until we appear with Yahweh

V7. That meditation describes our praise to Yahweh that proceeds our praise to Him in in verses 8-12.

So we find the definitions between descriptive and declarative Psalm. The importance of praise in the darkest times of our lives. Causing a longing to be in Yahweh's presence. Without daily praise towards Yahweh--problems which are only trials seem to get worse and worse. Often times this can lead us to understanding Yahweh is less and less. Possibly seeking out in error other ways or means.  Yet through the practice of praise,  teaches us a continuing relationship of appreciation towards Yahweh's strength, benevolence and characteristics.

I was glad when they said to me, “The house of Adonai! Let’s go!
