We are walking in today: The Ninth Commandment-Do Not Bear False Witness-Slanderous Tongue
Witness slander throughout the Bible: H1681 dibbah whispering, defamation, evil report, unfavourable saying about others
Leviticus 19:16; Numbers 14:36; 2 Samuel 19:28; Isaiah 58:9; Jeremiah 6:28, 18:18; Ezekiel 36:3; Psalm 15:2-3, 31:13, 140:12; Proverbs 10:18, 16:28, 18:8; Matthew 15:19, Romans 3:8; 2 Corinthians 12:20; Ephesians 4:31; Colossians 3:7-9; 1 Timothy 5:14
The slanderous tongue is some thing that we experience quite often--even part take in ourselves. Under closer look and review we find that when unchecked puts us in the wrong position with those around us. Do not allow others to speak false or harshly about someone else. Why is this important? The slanderer, in speaking falsehoods could actually be believed and thus murdering that persons name and reputation. What often happens when you hear something bad about some one is to repeat it to as many people as you can. Even puffing yourself up to say that you are protecting them from another person. Watch and be aware but do not allow one witness who has hidden motives be the sole determining factor in decisions.
Yahweh has given us a total of three fences to tame or rather contain our tongues. Our teeth as the first enclosure, when closed on the tongue causes pain. Then the lips which if shut upon the tongue makes it difficult to understand. The final fence is the ninth commandment, do not bear false witness! When the commandments were no longer upheld, then there is no instruction to follow against speaking in haste and to bring about murder of a persons name. The one who slanders has the devil on their tongue. Oh but hold on, you who are only listening and not speaking--have the devil in their ear! In our current culture, there is a whole industry that makes a profit on telling the tells of woe or crafted lies of celebrities and sports personalities. The people who read these magazines or watch these shows even seem to believe that they know these people and trust that all that they hear is true. With no other evidence or concern beyond their own amusement. Whether seemingly faceless or behind someone's back--this bears a ripple effect of a fall in morality and civil customs. The original frame work for all of this is the Torah, the teaching and instructions of Yahweh/God. Without which, we have not been able to be protected from, since we were living outside the boundaries of protection. This direction in our behavior, how to treat people and make correction will cause each generation who upholds it to be a society, community, congregation of those full of peace, love and joy. For those things that are not to be done are self correcting by seeing the result of those who do not adhere to the instructions. To hear this again click here.
