Taming The Tongue--The Boastful and Cynical Tongue

Daniel 4; 1 Corinthians 4:7; 1 Corinthians 15:10, Psalms 1:1; 1 Samuel 17; Ephesians 4:29; Psalm 44:8,  52:1 ; Philippians 4:13; Exodus 20:2-3; Psalm 23:4; Luke 18:27; Matthew 6:19-21; Psalm 4:1

We are walking in today:  Taming The Tongue--The Boastful and Cynical Tongue

1 Corinthians 4:7 (AMP) For who separates you from the others [as a faction leader]? [Who makes you superior and sets you apart from another, giving you the preeminence?] What have you that was not given to you? If then you received it [from someone], why do you boast as if you had not received [but had gained it by your own efforts]?Psalm 1:1 (AMP) 1 Blessed (happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable) is the man who walks and lives not in the counsel of the ungodly [following their advice, their plans and purposes], nor stands [submissive and inactive] in the path where sinners walk, nor sits down [to relax and rest] where the scornful [and the mockers] gather.

Philippians 4:8 (AMP) For the rest, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is worthy of reverence and is honorable and seemly, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely and lovable, whatever is kind and winsome and gracious, if there is any virtue and excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on and weigh and take account of these things [fix your minds on them].
Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
Psalm 44:8 In God we boast all the day long, and praise thy name for ever. Selah.
Psalm 52:1 Why boastest thou thyself in mischief, O mighty man? the goodness of God endureth continually.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Exodus 20:2-3 2) I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3) Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Luke 18:27 And he said, The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.
Matthew 6:19-21 19) Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20) But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Psalm 4:1 Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

Thank you for joining us today as we continue on this study of the tongue.  That we must be aware if we have a boasting or cynical tongue.  We can keep ourselves from either extreme by walking in and writing Philippians 4:8 on our hearts.  That we would meditate on His word day and night that we are looking to please our heavenly Father, we would have less time or thought to boast or be cynical.  We have so much to think about and so much presented to us, but is it godly?  Is it about or of the kingdom of God?  Let us put away all of the nonsense!  Hold on to God's word, the word that stands forever and can never be reversed nor return void!  Our boasting should only be in God!  It is He that makes all things possible for us!  Thank You God for coming to teach us and correct us!  Thank You Lord for Your mercy and grace.  Thank You for showing us more about this small member that can set the world on fire!  We pray that You would pour back into Sandy Bell for her obedience and her heart to serve and seek after You!  Thank You that she takes time to prepare and study the tongue to teach it here on fiveamprayer!  Thank You that You are covering and keeping Sandy like only You can!  Thank You God!  We lift up the community of Newtown Connecticut, and pray that the Comforter would surround them in response to this terrible shooting.  Hold that town in Your hands, Lord and comfort those parents and family members, let them  know that absence from the body is presence with the Lord.  We thank You God for being the all knowing and wise God.  To listen to this message click here.

We seal this prayer in His precious blood, by His Spirit:   1 Corinthians 15:10 (AMP) But by the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not [found to be] for nothing (fruitless and without effect). In fact, I worked harder than all of them [the apostles], though it was not really I, but the grace (the unmerited favor and blessing) of God which was with me.  We will walk in the council of the godly, only!  God has an answer if we would just be quiet and listen.

  1. I have learn to remain humble and thankful. Boastful spirits are unable to see where change &
growth are needed. Being humble is the key!. See the link below for more info.
